We're clearly just going to have to agree to disagree on this. There are several statements i would love to approach in that paragraph but for the sake of not cluttering the thread with a debate that's way off topic ...

For your answer, I don't think the code has been released to many if any phones, what has been done is the companies allowed their apps to stream higher quality music over the 3g network. Because you know ... those companies who already supported the higher quality audio (that's right ... technically they had to change not a single thing apart from letting their app stream high quality over 3G ;) ) sure do care about how much data your putting across your mobile network that you pay the bill for

So the solution was to use more data?
LOL- what was the supposed "fix" that google was saying would be rolled out in OS updates? Is it fixed in the code, or is this rather some sort of compromise made to content providers?
Whatever, this is clearly a very detailed off topic discussion we don't have to pursue here (sorry for starting it and cluttering up the thread in the first place!). Maybe I'll start a new thread about it if I'm still curious.

@dishe

If you want to disable stagefright, are you all set with knowing how to do it? Its pretty straight forward but if your not comfortable with it we can probably make you a flashable zip to only change that.

Just let me know and I'll throw something up for you.

That's really awesome of you, thanks!

I think there is a settings file I can edit somewhere, or some kind of terminal command to disable it temporarily, neither of which I've tried yet. So, I think I can figure it out if I'm inclined to.

Meanwhile, I did try to listen to Pandora on some crappy headphones I have on my desk, and it sounded ok (kind of crummy due to aforementioned headphones of crappiness). But, as you said, they've "fixed" that, however the method used.

I suppose if the problem shows up somewhere, I'll look into disabling it or do some experimenting with it off/on.

Ksmithinny the steps I used where going into the app drawer then pressing the power button it looks like its going to shut off but then it gets reall dark then I press the power button twice then it wakes up but I have tryed a fresh wipe everything cache delevk factory wipe and it not major but I deff notice it and also while downloading apps theres a glitch when your downloading and you try and do the same turning the sleep button off humm?

okay so i hope im not missing something here..

I'm diggin the custom ROM.. and I do like Swype Keyboard..however sometimes i like to switch from stock to swype vis-versa .. however noticed its only swype..anyway to get stock keyboard so i can switch back-n-forth?..now i know i can get better keyboard or smart (but don't care for those myself)....unless i missed something in flashing this rom. which took out the stock keyboard...?

Just go to your settings, language and keyboard, and android keyboard it shows its still there and you already know how to change the keyboard just hold down the area that you wanna text and its going to say input method you can select swype or android keyboard see if that works ;-)

Noticed something small with the newest rom. Not sure if its simply a settings feature like the last issue stated above or not..... Normally when in a text message, the number of letters left will be displayed. I remember on the last rom they would be displayed whether the keyboard was in use our not. On this rom the remaining letters left are only displayed when the keyboard is not displayed.

For example, to recreate this scenario, goto a text message. Type one or two words. Look around the send key. Its blank. Now hit back on the hard keys. The keyboard will disappear and displayed next to the send key will be the amount of text letters left in the message.

This number used to be displayed during texting whether the keyboard was in use or not...

EDIT: Its only displayed with the phone held vertically. Once its turned sideways the numbers go away... except when the keyboard its not displayed

You know, I never noticed those were even there... good to know, I actually missed having that and thought it just wasn't part of the Android messaging system!

yeah, should of been clear in my post... its odd thats not there...

language and keyboard of course is there...but no input method. where input method should be it just says SWYPE and when tap on that its just settings for swype. ..and i even tried to load another keyboard (better keyboard). and better keyboard comes up where you can check mark it..but yet does not show up on input method.

Hi folks, please excuse the super nooby post here...

So I know that if you root, you shouldn't accept OTA updates as they will disable the root. Since ThundeROM is based on having a rooted phone, obviously you don't accept OTA with ThundeROM either.

ThundeROM is based on V9. What would happen, for example, when V10 would come out with some super-cool-must-have-updates. Would I go back to stock, update to V10, re-root, (assuming someone figures out how to root V10), and reflash a new ThundeROM that you guys will undoubtedly base on V10? Or just reflash a new ThundeROM that you base on V10. Or ignore V10?

I hope that's not too confusing...just wondering, basically, if I switch to a custom ROM like ThundeROM, do I lose out on any-and-all major improvements Sprint might roll out for good? Do you guys care?

(I don't even get my phone until tomorrow, but I really like this ThundeROM idea...just want to make sure I won't get hamstrung by it...)

Thanks!

You would just need to wait until a new ThundeROM is released based on the new version and flash that. For most ROMs that usually isnt too far off from when the official update is released. In some cases it is before if there is a leak.

Thank's gabbot....I was confused by this exchange from earlier in this thread:

I have a question about the radio version of this ROM. The first post says that this ROM is based off of v9. My Optimus S should be arriving later this week. I got it off of eBay, and I'm guessing that it will come with v8 software. I was planning on bypassing the SprintID activation screen (as described here: http://forum.androidcentral.com/lg-...-followed-complete-blackout-2.html#post444854 ) and then rooting/recovery/ThundeROM before activation. If I do that, will my radio be updated to the v9 radio, or will it still be at the v8 version? Some posts of Zefie's made it seem that the radio update is sort of independent and can only be updated by the official OTA or by using his stock ROM instructions.

You need to do the OTA to V9 if you want the radio.

KSmith in this case seems to indicate that even though ThundeROM is based on V9, flashing it over a V8 phone will not update everything that an OTA V9 update will do...

Sorry if I'm not getting it....two days of reading these forums and I'm still trying to wrap my head around the lingo!

ROM's don't contain radios. If you want the radio that comes with V9 OTA software update, you need to do the OTA software update, then root, then flash a custom recovery, then flash a ROM.

Maybe later down the road we'll get to the point where you can flash radios independently (this is done on pretty much every phone). So later in the future what might happen is we can say ok here's thunderom Vxx and here are the radios that come with OTA xx. flash the rom, reboot, then flash the radios. Were just not there yet in the development cycle.

Can you please post a log of other optimizations that are on the way

Hi, I'm a new android user. I can't waste to try out this rom, but I have noticed you two have pumped out new versions every few days which is great.

I'm afraid to try it, re-setup the phone, then a newer cooler version comes out the next day.

If your still actively developing it, is there anyway you can put a TODO type list so we can know whether to take the plunge now or wait 3 days?

I understand you need people to use it to find bugs, which I'm happy to do, It would just be nice for a heads up to know not to spend 3 hours customizing my phone as a new version will be out soon.

Thats all,

Thanks! and being a programmer I appreciate all the work your putting in.

I'm not sure i see the problem ... thats what the screen should look like???

Now open a text message, press and hold your finger in the blank area that says "type to compose", a menu will come up and you need to select "input method", click "android keyboard".

lol..grr. okay thanks. ksmith. i got that..input came up.

but i dunno..maybe im getting old. but i thought under language/keyboard there was a INPUT METHOD where u click and then it shows what you can change..

well anyways i got it. so thnx.

Lmao .... Happens to me all the time ... "hey what happens to (insert option)"

I was wondering if there was a way to incorporate music controls for the lock screen. I've tried other players and apps that use that feature but wasn't satisfied with them. Not sure if I'm just asking for to much but if that could be a feature in one of the future Roms it would be much appreciated. Everything about this Rom is great. Thank you.
