Devoted VZW Gnex user looking for next phone, what would you get?

Shouldn't be long before those Active Display features are ripped from the ROM and available for download. It looks like a great feature to save battery even without those companion cores.

Nexus 5 FTW
I got the GNex the day it came out and will easily make it last until the Nexus 5 is a possible choice. There may be something else worth considering out at that time, but it has to be in the mix.

What makes everyone think that the nexus 5 will be on Verizon? I've seen a lot of justifiably sarcastic comments but others that seem optimistic.
I'm a VZW GNex user too, so I hope its true. I just wondering if there is some rumor I missed.

Would need to hold both in my hand. While the Maxx is a little wider at 137.5m and the X at 129.3 the X is thicker hitting 10.4m compared to the Maxx at 8.5m. All in all I think you get more with the Maxx that the larger frame would be worth it. But I'm still leaning towards the LG G2.
Ah, you're right. Does the maxx have as steep of an incline as the X does? Looks like the X gets much thinner towards the bottom.

They mentioned they chose AMOLED so they could utilize Active Display. They said on AMOLED allows them to power on only certain parts of the screen.

Ugh, you're probably right. Before the GNex, I never thought about leaving big red... but after my wonderful experience w/ this phone (and most importantly, the dev support), I am considering switching to have a better user experience.

I'm just really afraid to jump ship to a provider I'm not familiar with.

G2 just won my heart

G2 does look really sick and Im pretty sure its going to cost the same as the moto x, s4, new droids etc but im just not into lg. at this point im just going to wait til fall and see what the new OS will provide and see if any new phones will be announced. im super tempted to go back to s4 but i wanna wait to see legit reviews on moto x. the droid ultra also looks awesome and fits my budget. really good choices this year. im gonna wait another month and half before making a real choice because honestly this gnex has lasted me a little over 2 years and has been the greatest phone ive ever owned. very reliable, fast (for its time) so my next choice has a high expectation rate.

My guess is that if the Nexus 5 is on Verizon, it will be like the new Nexus 7 with LTE. That means that it would ONLY support VZW's LTE, but have no CDMA 3G coverage. They can do that because the LTE spectrum has to be open to unlocked devices. So for me, that wouldn't work because I go a lot of places that have 3G coverage and I would have no coverage in that case. It would be like using Sprint! :D

I'm pretty much set on the Moto X unless I listen to the voice in my head telling me to wait for the Nexus 5. I just like the idea of close to stock Android from Moto and those extra features actually sound GOOD for once.

That would mean no voice, so that is not likely. Once Verizon lights up voice over LTE, then the Nexus devices will be able to leave out the CDMA. Until then, you need the CDMA radios for voice.

I have not made a final decision yet but I think the LG G2 may have moved to the top of my short list.

LG G2 > S4? What about dimensions?

If considering the S4, one should consider the G2 as well I suppose. But I'm not sure about the size of it... 5.2" screen, holy shat.

Pretty much the same size, in fact I read the G2 is a little smaller in width.

I'm in the same boat - looking at the Galaxy S3 or S4, but I can't afford it unsubsidized, so I'm going to be losing my unlimited data (which might not be a bad thing - after analyzing my usage, I've not gone over 1 gig usage in 6 months of use).

I know it's my decision as well as the OP, but I want to make myself feel better about losing unlimited data - would getting the latest be worth losing that, especially if you had access to wifi almost anywhere?

I also debated loosing unlimited data 6 months ago when my wife was up for a new phone. Adding our phones onto the same account plus my corporate discount made the share everything plan a few bucks cheaper each month - but we gave up that data. There was no way 2GB shared would cut it since she was using about 800MB and I about 2.5GB, but it turns out I was using a lot unnecessarily - updating apps not on wifi, etc. So in the end it "felt" bad to loose unlimited, but in reality it wasn't too much of a lifestyle adjustment to make it work. And if we ever have a bad month it's only $10 more (or a prorated amount of that) to bump up to 4GB for the month. And switching to a share everything plan removes the worry of "if I change that setting on my plan will I loose unlimited" - plus you get new, subsidized phones. I say do it, so long as you're not using 8GB a month or something.

Same here. I don't feel like shelling out $6-700 on a phone. I'd rather spend it on other things. I don't use more than 1.5gb/mo, even if I went on a family plan, the others wouldn't use more than 1gb. I think I'd be safe at 4gb shared. It would suck to just lose the unlimited bit and go to a limited plan.... but in the end, I guess it doesn't matter. Plus, if you buy the phone outright, you're still paying vz a subsidy. I dont like that bit.

If I had to do it today I'd get the Google Play S4, the Nexus4 would be a step down from the GN and the Google Play HTC One lacks a removable battery. The one thing I really don't like about the Google Play S4 is the 16G of memory, the carrier S4s come with 32G. I have 16G on my 2012 Nexus 7 and it's a problem. My contract ends in December so I won't be making any decisions until then. I'm hoping for a better alternative by December, perhaps a Nexus 5, perhaps they will offer a 32G Google Play S4. The other possibility is to just get a carrier G4 and root it. I'm almost certainly moving to AT&T. The binary drivers on the Verizon GN have been a problem.

How do you feel the nexus 4 is a step down from the gnex? In terms of storage?
