Dial-Out Tone Ringing For No Reason

With no discernable pattern, my phone will randomly make the dial-out tone from the speaker of the phone (I'm guessing, because it's very audible), but when I check the past calls there is no record of an incoming call. It lasts for only seconds at a time and then it stops. Does anybody know what this might be? Is it a virus, hacking, a bug or what?

Welcome to Android Central! It might be the NFC chip detecting something, like a credit card in a wallet-style case. Try turning off NFC and see if it goes away (or, if you use a wallet-style case, remove any cards from it).
