Did Moto kill the X because of the Turbo?

True.
Since they were being developed/designed at the same time it's obvious Moto decided to cherry pick what to add/not add onto the new X.
Don't know if Verizon had veto power over that selection of hardware, but it appears so.
Nothing stands in the way of having this great phone [Moto X] with great hardware [Turbo] but agreements/contracts.
Personally, I think it's a bit large. That, however, could be a function of hardware requirements.
I don't consider it buyers remorse when these items were developed at the exact same time.
More like deceptive practices that are SOP for manufactures.

Honestly, the only thing about the Turbo that makes me jealous is the battery. I can do without the SoC upgrade, I can do without the bump in screen resolution. I also have taken a liking to the nylon kevlar back (the black one) .. But I still prefer the physical shape of the Moto X.

For me it's the one free screen replacement. I know this is a VZW-driven benefit, but still... Wireless charging and turbo charger are nice adds too. My rest of the spec upgrades really don't matter for my usage. Even the battery is overkill for my needs -- a mid-point between the two would be a sweet spot.

But still in my 14-day window I can choose either at essentially no cost difference. The real cost difference is having to tote around an ugly 6.2oz brick...

Turbo is not a choice on GSM networks. So for me the Moto X will hit it. However I'm looking at the N6. I might jump but for now I will enjoy the Moto X.

First off, don't know if I could handle the size of the turbo.
That being said: They were developed at the same time!
For features that I would want:
Qi, 20MP+ camera, OIS and would prefer it being a bit smaller like maybe the size of OG Moto X, don't think that last item is in the cards.
regarding Kevlar back or what ever....don't consider that a deal breaker.
I don't know the list price of this item but don't think it will be a sale lead.
Battery size: if we could cut size with a 20 % reduction in battery amp hrs. so be it.
SD805 if I read the spec sheet correctly would take about a 50 MP back, 5MP front camera.
Why not? Lets kick some **** Moto!

Turbo is almost identical in size to new Moto X, just a little heavier.

The X has been declared the best phone overall thus far for 2014 by most trusted reviewers. Turbo will only be on Verizon and the look of it is hit or miss by many.

The X is truly the smaller option for those wanting the Nexus

The best phone from most sites I've been to is the Sony Z3 and Note 4. The battery really kills the phone. Most people have the screen on for me than 3 hours during the day. I would go and customize a Moto X right now if the battery was bigger.

Finally got a hands-on look at the Turbo today at the VZW store and the differences from the X screen was impressive. The Turbo screen was unbelievably sharp and crisp. Checked and of course they had it set at 100% brightness, auto turned off. Got my X out, set the brightness identically and spent some time comparing side-by-side:

The Turbo whites were whiter, with a slight yellow tint noticeable on my X in comparison.

Spent some time comparing google maps including satellite view. Differences were slight, if at all really noticeable, but the pixel density made very small items just a little sharper.

The difference in screen real estate due to the capacitive buttons was more pronounced than I expected and really made the X look like a smaller phone, even though they were virtually identical in height (with the Hula bumper on my X).

In the end, side-by-side the Turbo's bigger screen, better sharpness and better whites made the X look like an old phone in comparison -- and my X has been in use for nine days.

Wasn't that impressed with the ballistic nylon. The overall size didn't bother me as much as I thought, with the dimensions pretty close to the X with the bumper. With the free screen replacement the Turbo can probably go caseless. Obviously there is a bit more bulk but the curved edges make it seem and feel less brick-like.

I really love my cognac leather X but it's looking like it may go back to Motorola after all. The overall Turbo package is just too hard to ignore.

Looked at the Turbo again at a different VZW store and was a little less wowed by the screen this time. Whites weren't so different from my X. Sharpness was still a little better but not as distinct. Maybe the store lighting was different?

One thing that still stands out is the difference in screen real estate - the Turbo just flat out looks like it has a bigger screen. Really noticeable using Maps. Yet stand them side-by-side and they're identical height (with Hula bumper on the X).

VZW salesman was kind enough to unbox a BN Turbo so I could hold it side-by-side without a security tether on the back. Weight/bulk difference is noticeable, but not ginormous.

Launcher 3 crashed while I was using one of the display models. My X froze as crashed while I was there too. Moral is I'm a danger to and should not come near smartphones. Next stop: 99cent Store for some cans and string...

If that was sarcastic then I must tell you, my good sir, that the X's battery does go out throughout the day.

An interesting read: Moto X vs. Droid Turbo: Which one's right for you? | Computerworld

This comment stood out:
Yeah, yeah -- I know: The Droid Turbo has a Quad HD display while the Moto X has a 1080p screen and the Turbo has a 2.7GHz quad-core Snapdragon 805 processor with 3GB of RAM while the X has a 2.5GHz quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor with 2GB of RAM. If specs alone excite you, by all means factor that into your decision.

For most of us, though, those numbers really don't matter. After living with both devices individually and then studying them closely side by side, I can tell you that there's no real discernible difference between the phones when it comes to performance or display quality. Higher numbers don't automatically equal a superior experience, and in real-world terms, these changes don't amount to much.

The only thing that was missing for me with the new Moto X was the battery life. I could have even lived with the camera.
