Did Moto kill the X because of the Turbo?

I do care about looks but my biggest need is battery. I can't make it through the day with this thing. I realized after I put a case on the X it doesn't really matter what your phone looks like all that matters is if Its dead or not

I see.

Well not sure what your usage habits are but I'm making it through a day very easily with the Moto X (and I'm not even joking here, the battery is sufficient for a day. What do you do on your phone exactly?). If it doesn't work for you then I guess you've got no choice but to exchange it for something else.

At this point I'm very conflicted. The X is a beautiful phone, has a great in-hand feel, I love the leather back and the battery, while not great, meets my needs. It should be all good. And yet...

My 32gb X w/leather was $125 - and that's with $50 discount sale. For an additional $75 I get better everything with the Turbo ... except the beauty. Plus I get the turbo charger and, if reports are accurate, one free glass replacement if the screen is damaged. Frankly, those last two are worth $75 by themselves. The Turbo build looks super durable and with free screen replacement I think film to protect against scratches is the only accessory required for my needs. So the weight/size difference in negligible. However, compared to the X it is **** ugly...

At a minimum, I can't help but think I've now overpaid for my X. I have another week to decide but as much as it pains me I think it's going back. (Edit to add: Looks like VZW will give $100 off if you trade in an old smartphone - also something not offered for the X. A 32gb Turbo for $25 less than I just spent on a 32gb X w/leather is hard to pass up...)

...adding, I think the thread title should be "Did Moto kill the G because of the Turbo?" because the X is quickly going to be a free-on-contract phone. When that happens, how are they going to price the G?

On contract. Key words. The G will be fine pretty much as is.

Add a grain of salt and DROID Turbo/Moto X Play passes through FCC

I hope it's true, maybe now that Droid Turbo has come out we will hear more news on it.

Thanks for the link.
Figuring the half-life of a non-replaceable battery at 2-3 years.....
I have time for things to shake out.
IF Moto comes out with a non-branded Turbo good for GSM ....
Guess then I'd have to take a trip down to Verizon to see if I could tolerate the size.
Odds are that I would buy one straight from Moto.
Of course right now this is all speculation....mind game fun.

My intention was to get the X, but I'm glad I waited. The specs of the Turbo (especially the battery) are too good to pass up. Same screen size but more horsepower. I can't say it's a beautiful physical design but I've seen worse. The new X is just not enough of an upgrade for me from my OG X. I thought about the Nexus but I don't know how long it will be before we see it on Verizon and really the only thing that keeps me possibly hanging on for the Nexus is the unlocked bootloader. If the Turbo had an unlocked bootloader it could be a dream phone for me. So time will tell Thursday when I can put both the Turbo and new X in my hands.

The price bothers me too. Yes, it's slightly cheaper than other flagships, but you're also compromising on features that are quite important for most people, ie. the battery and to a greater extent, the camera, which is unquestionably mediocre at best.

I say again, I can't help but feel gipped with the Moto X.

If you're on Verizon, I can see the conflict between the two. Personally I'd still take the X over the Turbo simply because I love the look and feel of the X. But that's me, I don't put cases on my phones so the aesthetics are more important.

Thankfully I'm not on Verizon, so this whole comparison is a non-issue for me. X. Done. Happy.

Exactly. Exclusive to the evil empire. Moto x is more than worth its value. Can't compare it to the turbo and say moto ripped you off.

But being free of carrier contracts and having the X is a perfect combination!

Me too. I'm not on Verizon so I am not losing sleep about it, nor am I losing sleep over the Nexus 6 since it's too friggin' big for me. I am very happy with my X and won't likely part with it until the third generation comes out.

I don't understand why this thread keeps getting fed by all the folks who are so happy with their Moto Xs? SMH

And that matters cause? It's a question for everyone, whether they like the X or not. What people are feeling about the being 'jipped' on the Turbo is just human nature. When we buy something, there will always be a better version out soon after. This type of discussion between the X and Turbo will always exist. I think the only way around this is if Moto/VZW released the Turbo at the same time as the X. They didn't, so many are upset.

True.
Since they were being developed/designed at the same time it's obvious Moto decided to cherry pick what to add/not add onto the new X.
Don't know if Verizon had veto power over that selection of hardware, but it appears so.
Nothing stands in the way of having this great phone [Moto X] with great hardware [Turbo] but agreements/contracts.
Personally, I think it's a bit large. That, however, could be a function of hardware requirements.
I don't consider it buyers remorse when these items were developed at the exact same time.
More like deceptive practices that are SOP for manufactures.

Yeah Verizon is simply not an option for me. I'm currently on AT&T and I'm looking to move over to Cricket wireless. (Can't beat 10GB of data for $55, don't care if it's capped at 8 Mbps).

GSM Arena reports that Motorola is rumored to announce a non-Verizon version of the Turbo on Nov. 5, with the name Moto Maxx.
