Did the One sell 5 Million Units or Not?

Why do you think companies fabricate figures or hire astroturfers to make fake reviews? To make it seem like the product is great and doing great, no one wants to buy a product that the market isn't showing interest in. That could be viewed as something being wrong with it or undesirable and honestly people are sheep and follow the herd.

And go back and look at the quote where the 5 million mark was made, it was made by an "unnamed source". There's more than enough wiggle worm for what I laid out to occur.

Both of our theories are plausible. We will likely never know.

Another unnamed company official backtracked on the original claim saying the 5 million figure was not official: ?That number comes from the same unnamed source that is referenced throughout the WSJ article. Unfortunately, that isn?t an official figure.? HTC One 5 million sales figure is not official : The Droid Guy

Yeah. But like I said, it doesn't matter. I don't know of anyone who looks at the bottom line of each company and factors that in while purchasing. If that happens then we really are headed for a Apple/Samsung only future.

Actually, I have seen several posts in these forums by people who are inclined to by the One but concerned about HTC's viability, particularly as it relates to updates.

There should be an entire subforum solely for discussions of sales figures.

These threads are downright useless.

Really? Tell that the thousands (perhaps many times more) of people who will not buy BlackBerrys because of the company's financial situation. They love the phone but don't see a future in it. At least that's what they are saying in forums and on web sites.

This argument hurts my brain seeing as it's fairly meaningless

Soo... what, you're trying to "nudge" them a certain way by making such posts with unconfirmed assumptions? ;)

Let's face it sales numbers are important. If you want frequent updates, a large selection of accessories and good product support from the manufacture you want a phone that is the best seller. Phones that are second tier just don't get those benefits. Of course not everyone looks at sales figures before buying a phone. But everyone wants the benefits I described.

Not sure what you're suggesting? I own 2 One's and only 1 S4. Which way would I nudge someone if that is what I was trying to do? I simply try to share my experiences, joys and frustrations with both devices since I've probably spent more time with BOTH than most peeps here.

Not true. The iphone and android leaped BB because BB took to long to make an effort to catch up with the times. They saw that it wasn't broken and they did nothing to try to fix it. Kinda like what iphone and windows phone is going through now. Now that BB has put out a compelling phone, users have either moved to iphone or android as platform of choice....not because of financial situations.

Lol. Nobody outside of this website and maybe The Verge comment section even knows about HTC's financial situation.

Madlaw, it's not because you own both phones. It's because every chance you get you tear down the One and prop up the S4....especially here in the "ONE" forum. I value your opinions and insight but to most, your statements and comments come off as mostly negative.

When people walk into a carrier they see phones, not sales figures. Remember that.

I offer praise to the One in almost every thread. I just call things as I see them.

Creating threads re: unfounded speculation don't have a thing to do with your "experiences, joys and frustrations" though. It's a nonsense topic as there isn't concrete evidence supporting any sort of a sales figure.

Personally, I think these threads add nothing to the A/C community, but I acknowledge that not all share that opinion, which is just fine; that's why I made the suggestion there should be a separate section of the forum for purposeless speculation of sales figures.

Silly as that may sound, at the very least it clears up dozens of threads and allows these forums to function as intended, you know, with people discussing opinions and helping each other along through this terrific Android universe.

You do. But then it's over shadowed by saying "but the S4 is" and the "the One doesn't" and so on. Sure you call it as YOU see it...but that is you. Everyone is different and has different needs, tastes, and wants that has a totally different opinion as to how THEY see it.

I don't care about air view. I don't care about smart view. I don't care if it can **** gold nuggets. That's why I went with the One. It's simple, light, fast, looks great, and does what I need and want it to do. Just like I told Tohio, your not changing my mind. Period. End of story. That the S4 is better. Simply put....I don't care. I like my one and I do like the S4 but my driver is the One. The ONLY One.

I would hardly call analysis from a major financial institution unfounded speculation.

I simply can't understand people that gent into the thread just to say that the topic is irrelevant and telling nobody cares, if you don't care, just don't enter. This is an HTC One forum, and the number of units sold may be relevant for some including the future of HTC

HTC has not released official sales figures, so it's speculation.

And again, creating this thread contradicts this prior post of yours:

I simply try to share my experiences, joys and frustrations with both devices

This doesn't seem to fall into any of the above categories.

It's also interesting to note you ignored that the "analysts" from the two articles you shared blatantly contradict each other. When someone said the One cracked five million, you cried foul. But, these new bits of speculation you seem to argee with wholeheartedly.

Furthermore, the analysts from the first article clearly stated they expect growing sales throughout the summer months, yet, rather than take note of that, you find a second article with analysts predicting the device has peaked in sales, pointing that out with a:

Update: Yikes, sales have peaked already? Shame for a good phone.

I wonder why you post these links and accept their information without question, and I wonder why you create these threads that do not have anything to do with your personal experiences?

You spend an awful lot of time claiming you're unbiased because you've purchased two One's, yet your posts sure don't show it...

That's just fine, but HTC has not released their official sales figures yet, so why would there be a thread regarding information that no one knows? The word for that type of thread is: irrelevant.
