Did you test your upload speed on 3g?

Mine went up to normal speeds for a short while yhe other day too. But when I restarted the phone they went back down to 150. I don't understand it. Hasn't been over 150 since.

I just spoke with level 3 technical support, whatever that means, at Samsung. He told me that it is a problem that they know about and they are working with Sprint on this issue.

Here is where I got a bit upset with the tech support gentleman: he says that this is a phone that is geared for 4G. I almost jumped through the phone! First of all 4G is not available in the majority of the country. Second there are numerous reports that 4g doesn't penetrate buildings to well, so we will continue to need 3G. Third 4G uses so much battery life that we cannot have it on all the time.

He did say they are "working on it", but I think we need to continue to make noise.

Start Here: Samsung Epic:3G Upload Capped?

On page 25-27 They have some links where they are posting and contacting people to get the word out.

My upload speed hasn't changed. It will always spike up to around 512kb and then settle around 150kb. I have a week left. If it's not fixed, I'm going back to the Evo. 4G is nice when you have it. 3G is always available for me.

My upload speeds are up today. Yes 4g is off and I tested it right next to an EVO at lunch a couple hours ago. Our speeds were almost identical for 5 or 6 tests. A few times though his UL speeds were higher than mine, but for the most part, I was over 150k, usually around 200 - 400 k UL.
Chicago area - 3g.

My epic's speeds so far are better than on my evo, maybe due to its specific radio?

3g - Averaging 1600kbps down - 175 up @about 2:00pm PST
(speeds will very by time and network demand)

4g - N/A, damn you sprint....

Okay in addition to the Speed issue, the other SERIOUS bug is that the phone slows down to a crawl when upload in 3G is occuring. This doesn't happen in WIFI or 4G.

I'm running speedtest while playing an MP3 and during the upload part of the test, the phones slows so much that the song skips.

WTF. Why didn't sprint test this and why didn't ANY of the reviewers catch it as well?

Has anyone tried sending a picture via email through the gallery? My phone is not usable while the pic is being sent.

This is the same root cause as the issue I've described. Something is definitely wrong with 3G upload.

Quoting an admin (dshoem01) from the community.sprint.com forums:

"Here is the response from the Sprint Device Product Management team:

We have heard reports of users experiencing less-than-expected 3G upload speeds with their Samsung Epic 4G. After extensive investigation, Sprint and Samsung have identified an enhancement that may improve upload speeds on the Epic. This fix will be made available in the next maintenance release. It’s important to note that network speeds are impacted by many factors when using commercially-available speed test applications and test results may or may not be true indicator of the actual network performance."

photo belwo taken by enabling 4G, running speedtest, switching off 3g and photographing or screenshot. nice try but no one i buying it.

Anyone with speed test can test this scam. run speed test on 3g, while test results are up, switch off 4g and your screen will look like this.

So I had something interesting happen tonight. I too have been plagued with the 150kbps. Then tonight, on a whim, I ran Speedtest again and remarkably was getting Rev. A speeds. Note that the only radios I had on were GPS and 3G. I live in Dayton, OH where there is no 4G service. Sorry about the picture quality, I haven't rooted my phone, so can't take screen shots. The only change I've made to day is installed System Panel.

Took back the epic yesterday, evo is working great! Upload of 700-500kb no more drop calls better reception at work, compass is accurate, I can see flash videos(bonus of course), gps almost instantly locks, its like a breath of fresh air. It simply works!

Yeah, I'm going to call around today to see if anyone has an Evo in stock. Hopefully they're in stock now...

dude, you just got so owned. I've gotten higher than the 150 cap on 528 east of the airport (no 4g there) at home, I do get around 150 upload (actually a little less) but thats cause I'm in a dungeon.
