Disappointed (S20 ultra)

Very true. This is like the most complaints I've heard in the camera department. It's like every other post or thread now.
Maybe because reviewers are just now making it to be a bigger issue than in the past.

This is only my opinion. Phone is definitely not an improvement from the S10 plus. Couple of big things I've noticed so far is first (the big one) the camera is not very good. It has the same Samsung over softening look to the pictures. Focusing isn't great either. I'll say with my S10 plus that it's camera wasn't great either out of the box but I downloaded the Google camera apk and it made the camera awesome. Very crisp images. Obviously Samsung prefers the over softening because it can't be a mistake on every phone they make. They are too big and have too many resources to not know how to fix it. I feel I should not have to download Google camera apk for this brand new phone since the whole big thing about this phone was it's camera. Next, is I feel like I've went back to the Evo with how thick this phone is. Put a case on it and holy cow. It's a brick. It's not much heavier than my S10 plus ceramic edition. Other than those Two items it's all basically the same as the S10 plus. This has 16 gb of ram compared to my S10 plus 12 gb of ram. I don't notice it to be any more fast. Screen is bigger which is nice. Still playing with it but thought I'd give my thought and see if anyone else was disappointed with the camera too or the phone overall.
Where is the Google camera apk?

I can honestly say this is the first time I've doubted my decision to order a Galaxy phone since the S1. I skipped the S10 after the poor S9's and thought the Ultra would be unmissable so preordered without a hesitation. Mine is due to arrive early next week but I'm already thinking of cancelling 🙁

I feel the 100x zoom is really a gimmick imho. Tbh the phones nowdays are just better camera somewhat and a new processor. The wow factor has died for me in terms when i went from s7 to s8 to s 10 plus.

I would definitely recommend to wait a few months so the prices come a little low as well as the shortcomings are ironed out.

Basically higher zoom is likely to be 'the thing' for the coming year. Huawei's P30 Pro already offers higher optical zoom (5x vs 4x) than the Ultra at less than half the price — most likely we'll see it as the newly arrived 'standard' feature for flagships (except Google Pixel, who will wait another 2-3 years).

The 100x zoom is pretty misleading - as much so as the 30x zoom on the non-Ultra models which are actually about 1.06x optical zoom.

Pretty disappointed with the camera. The 108 megapixels seems to have issues focusing even when you press on the screen. Doesn't seem sharp. Additionally the lag causes motion blur compared to other picture sizes. I kinda was on the fence. I prefer the note 10s aspect ratio. I thought I could get over it when I checked it out in store but I cant

The price would be a lot more out of pocket for some of us if we wait because of the pre order and trade in deal. The cheaper price for me is to buy now.

Agree with u

Im a little dissapointed also, im a huge picture taker, my Note 10+ did a superb job at photos, havent taken that many yet with my new Ultra and they few i have taken have seemed pretty normal. I love the bigger screen and the display is just awesome, im not sure how i feel about the 120hz refresh, part of me feels its a gimick, i mean i know its real but i have never had a issue scrolling on my screen to the point where i say this sucks, right now im using the 60hz refresh with the highest resolution, i dont game that much and would rather have a crisper screen, also many have said you lost almost 20-30% of battery with the 120hz on which is a deal breaker for me, i want to love this phone, they also have a issue with notification sounds, i save sounds from Zedge and they arent showing up when i try to edit notification sounds within apps, annoying as hell...

I’m dissatisfied, Returning the device Friday. Very good phone, Very good camera, Very good Battery and Best Display, But at $1400, Very good isn’t good enough.

Didn’t beat my Pixel 4 XL or Pro Max in terms of speed or canera quality. Samsung cameras are slow when it comes to AF and moving subjects. The Zoom is garbage after 10x and the phone design is just bad.

I should be blown away at $1400, not content...

I don't believe for a second that the S20 Ultra isn't faster than the Pixel 4 or Pro Max.

I couldn't wait to get rid of the junk Pixel 4 XL (RAM amount is hot garbage and it takes roughly 5 seconds to process a photo) and my son has the Pro Max and the S20 Ultra smokes both of them. Has plenty of fast RAM, UFS 3.0 Storage, and the 120hz display.

My 4xl takes much faster pics then my ultra. Much better with moving objects also

I can't understand how that's even possible. Not saying you're lying. You mean it takes the picture quickly or processes it quickly? If it's the former I can see what you mean. I meant the latter, though. Yes, the picture is taken quickly, however, if you click the picture right away it's still processing for a few more seconds. I agree about the moving objects.

Yes it gets the shot much more quickly. Yes it does take a few seconds longer to process. But the shutter speed is much faster with much better autofocus . Hopefully Samsung fixes that because that's the only thing aggravating me at the moment. The rest of the phone blows the 4xl out of the water though

What I feel would have been much better is if the Ultra had greater optical zoom but less overall zoom. Limit the Ultra to say 30x zoom in total and offer at least 5x-10x optical zoom so that up to 30x zoom was overall better. I would forget the "space zoom" and call it something like "clear zoom" up to a max. of 30x. The 2 lower grade S20 models I would limit to say 15x.

I would say use it first before making any preemptive judgments. You might end up liking it, and if not then return it

Sent mine back. Wasn't impressed. I get better battery life on my note 10 plus. I don't like the round edges for media consumption either.

I'm torn. I mean, yes, it's not what it should be, but it's not like it's entirely stuck in this state. The beauty with tech is that you can get upgrades, mods and patches that can help steer it in the direction you had initially hoped for the phone. I know, I know, if you buy something for this much money, it should perform up to our standards for something at that price range... but think about the phones people are mentioning they are going back to, the S10, Note 10, Pixel 4, iPhone 11 Pro. All of those were also initially criticized for not offering enough innovation, not having enough tech, having underwhelming specs, or not being worth the for cost. I think that while the S20 may be underwhelming now, if Samsung does right by the customer, they can make the tweaks necessary. That or Arnova comes through and makes a kick-*** gcam apk to save the day.

Whatever the case, this phone has 16g of RAM and 512g of storage...it's got a lot of room to grow.

OK so after more use I think it feels too big once a case it put on (Otterbox Symmetry) and it does feel like a brick with a case. I like the feel without a case (form factor that it) but it's too slippery and the camera bump sticks out so far that I don't feel comfortable laying it down being afraid to scratch the camera or scratch the surface that I'm sitting it on because it sits so unlevel and the weight is focused on such narrow corner points.

Of course the other problem without using a case is how fragile the glass body is. I seen the drop test and it shatters quite easily without a case. So a very slippery glass body + super fragile without a case + doesn't lay flat without a case + feels too thick and bulky with a case is going to be a deal breaker for me.

The camera is both great and crap at the same time. As good as the optical zoom is, everything else sucks with the camera, closeup shots, bad auto focus, 108mp not looking that impressive and losing dynamic range when compared to the 12mp mode so I don't even see the point in it.

I like the screen size but I think the plus model is the way to go for it's potentially much better form factor once a case is installed while maintaining a larger screen but then you lose the nice optical zoom which was one of the main features that I was upgrading for.

Using it without a case is risky because of the price and the camera probably won't get much better with a update. I almost feel like they're stalling the camera update so that we get suckered into waiting past the return period. Glad I was smart enough to not send my trade in right away! I want it to work out, love the optical zoom, love the larger display, but I'm just not feeling fully satisfied with it overall. The negatives are outweighing the positives at this point.

They are stalling because they are incompetent in pushing an universal update at the same time. They have million firmware versions and bend over to carriers for their customization/testing and same with other regions where each firmware is different. There will always be delay with pushing updates and don't think they are intentionally stalling. It's just they are incapable and inefficient.
