Discount for Note 7 owners

So does this deal negate the need to pay off 50% of your current device to upgrade? I'm on AT&T Next and won't be eligible to upgrade till Nov. To upgrade now I have to put down some cash. Does the trade-in apply to this situation?

Re: Deal on Note 8 for former Note 7 owners - anyone going to bite on this?

https://www.phonedog.com/2017/08/23/samsung-galaxy-note-8-deal-note-7-owners

Just saw this today - "Samsung will give U.S. Galaxy Note 7 owners a discount of up to $425 on the Galaxy Note 8. To get this deal, you’ll just need to trade in your current device. The offer will be available starting tomorrow, August 24th, on Samsung.com."

I'm guessing there's more than a few former Note 7 owners like myself on this S8 forum and this offer is intriguing. I loved my Note 7 and was sad to turn it in, but I've been quite pleased with my S8+ and hadn't seen any major reason to upgrade right away to the new Note as the specs are very similar - same screen quality (although slightly larger), same processor, etc.

I had concerns about the smaller battery in the Note 8 pushing a slightly larger screen and more RAM (6gb vs 4gb in the S8). One big thing I'd really like is the dual camera with optical zoom as zooming with the S8+ is pretty useless for good pix. S-pen would be nice to have again too, but not the most important thing for me.

I guess I'll wait and see the early reviews and tests of the Note to see how battery life compares to our phone and if the camera is as good as advertised before looking into this any further. If battery life is a lot less, that could be a deal breaker as my S7 edge didn't have good battery life and drove me nuts. S8+ manages battery life a ton better.

Question - anyone know if this discount offer would be able to be used to pay off the current phone that us former Note 7 owners have now (in my case S8+ with over $300 to payoff on the annual upgrade plan on Verizon) or would we have to pay that out of pocket and only get a discount on the Note 8?

I'm on the same boat. I feel I wrote your message cause I have the same question. In order to upgrade I have to pay over $300 with AT&T, and wondering if that offer can be used towards paying off the phone. I guess we'll know tomorrow. I'm in love with the S8+ but I have always been a Note fan, but I don't really see much of a difference between these two phones this year. Will only get it for the right price.

Once you reach the eligible pay off mark. It basically restarts. You'll have to pay the taxes on the new phone once you trade in the previous device. And that's basically it.

Note 8 users stuck with a Galaxy S8+ should be allowed tobe upraded to note 8

I endured the note 7 fiasco returned the phone Twice. So it's only fair Samsung get in contact with our carriers to allow us to upgrade early for example. I'm stuck with a Galaxy 8plus. I would love to have the note 8. I've had every note since the 2nd one came out. How about starting a petition to make this happen?

Re: Note 8 users stuck with a Galaxy S8+ should be allowed tobe upraded to note 8

Stuck with a S8+ huh? Is only the best phone made to date. Samsung doesn't owe us anything. Especially with all of the giveaways they have done since the Note 7. (AKG. Headphones, Vr, gear 360, 256gb SD cards) Let's not get an attitude of entitlement.

I'm confused so is this program only available through Samsung or could I go to my carrier

Sounds like via Samsung which scares the crap out of me. Not worth the gamble sending in an S7 Edge and only get $25 or something for it when the third party company makes a lame excuse to say it's not in "working condition." I'd be better off trading it in at Tmobile or best Buy towards the unlocked model.

No way in hell would I send them my mint condition S8 Plus.

Re: Note 8 users stuck with a Galaxy S8+ should be allowed tobe upraded to note 8

You new the N8 would come out you jumped to the S8, now you get to deal with your decision simple no reason for someone else to pay, also I'm guessing there were a lot of free promos collected were not talking about here

"The Korean conglomerate announced on Wednesday at its Unpacked event in New York City that former Galaxy Note 7 owners are eligible for a discount up to $425 on the Galaxy Note 8. In order to qualify for the deal, Galaxy Note 7 who will ostensibly be verified by the company to ensure they actually owned the ill-fated device, will need to trade in their existing smartphones and place their order for the new handset on Samsung.com."

Re: Note 8 users stuck with a Galaxy S8+ should be allowed tobe upraded to note 8

I'm not mad. I'll likely trade in my S7 Edge at Tmobile or at Best Buy when the unlocked model is out. I would think there will be sales on this in a couple months at Best Buy and Samsung.com

I'm going to try and be patient and wait a bit. I certainly don't want to pay $930 after just buying the s8 Plus!

I can see why jacking up the price of the S8 and Note line works for Samsung. By having a higher price they can run promos like $150 off like they have been doing with the s8. By having it high and then putting it on sale makes people sound like they're getting a great deal.

When I saw the $850 price tag for the S8 Plus I figured that was their strategy. However, I was getting VERY tired of the glitchy and small S7 Edge and I couldn't stand it any longer.

Since the S8 Plus is such a great device and has the large screen I can wait a couple months until the bugs are fixed via updates and possibly an unlocked version is released.

Both above replies correct. No reason in the world Samsung should be held responsible for your decisions.

Well, I ended up with the s7 Edge for $695.10
I paid about 10 payments = $290
I traded this phone in + $100 to get my s8 last month = $390
My s8 can be traded in for an upgrade by paying $326.24

Are they suggesting an additional $425 credit on top of the $375 value my s8 has on my Next plan, as in forgiving my Next completely? It doesnt make sense.

Not to mention Im on a Bogo that has not kicked in yet and I am NOT playing that game again after last year.

Increasing the $375 to $425.

Ewwww...idk if I wanna deal directly with Samsung. I've heard plenty horror stories.
If that is how it is done I won't do it. Swore I would never buy from them again after last year. I will just sell my s7e after I get my note 8
