Discount for Note 7 owners

This is the extent of their obligation. But they went above and beyond that. Free gifts, bill credits, discounts on the new device, etc.

The gifts came with the phone, only bill credit I got was for the payments I made on the N7, I only got the S7E after the N7, so I haven't gotten any discounts on another phone. IIRC, I got 100 to stay with Samsung. IMO, None of that equates to giving me back my N5 and resetting my upgrade. I get where you're coming from, but it just doesn't fly for me.

Again, you want to ignore all the people that were left high and dry. Basic mathematics doesn't show that it was a full refund. But good for them. Way to show the customer they're "wrong" rather than fixing the issue they caused.

I agree it's not the same thing, but resetting an upgrade is up to the carrier, not Samsung. It would be nice if they could work together more closely, but the way they actually work, Samsung is doing as much as anyone could reasonably expect them to.

No one is owed anything.

People are owed what was offered and agreed to. If Samsung and the carriers actually were hypothetically offering $1,500 and a free Note 8, and we agree to it, then yes they do owe it. They can not back peddle and expect us to just accept it because the offer was only a "favor" in the first place. Their reasoning for making any offer does not come in to play.

Also, the current offer is being marketed as one open to ALL Note 7 owners, not just ones with a valid trade in. Right here in literal black and white, they are presenting this as an offer for all to get.

If they are marketing it to all, then those without a valid trade should be owed the same discount. They should not be expected to be at a disadvantage by having to buy a phone to claim it.

Agree fully it should not be tied to a trade. Do it as a straight discount is much better practice.

YES! I need Samsung AND the carriers to work together on this. That way many more customers get a reasonable outcome. Not all are able to benefit from Samsung's offer because of agreements with carriers.

Samsung already made it right with the refunds. anything else they do is a bonus.

Great point. Alot of people fall into that category. I just happen to be right under the 50% payoff for my S7E, so I'm good. But others? Not so much. And then there are the N4 owners. I've read The offer doesn't apply to that device.

If I were you i would have just gotten a used note 5. Much cheaper than getting a new s7 edge. Of course you chose to upgrade and that's understandable. But then that's on you.

OK, but who was supposed to pay for it? Me? I had already paid a year on the one I traded. So now I have to pay AGAIN for one used and abused by someone else? No thanks.

This right here! The S7E can be seen as the N5 they didn't return to me. At the end of the day, they had me trade my N5 for an S7E which was NOT MY CHOICE! To make it right they needed to give me another N5 and put me back where I was in the upgrade timeline. That's where I started from. After that, any phone I switched to would have been on me.

Exactly what happened to me. I wanted my N5 back and to be put back on my 1 yr timeline. But TMob was like nope. So if you didn't have a back up phone or bought a phone out right. U just HAD to get A phone, "buy or rent" whatever you want to call it.

No one got freebies apart from the SD cards and so forth when it comes to this debacle. Actually Carriers made out like a bandit. I still had to pay a down payment on the LG V20. I'm not gonna talk about the S8 because that was me wanting another phone. But the LG V20 was not free.

I haven't heard anyone say, I got a free phone out this N7 crisis. Even the J7 they were offering you had to pay for.

I understand that some see it, as you returned the phone and got another phone. Keyword is choice and promises made from all the carriers and Samsung as well at the time. Because guess what, if Samsung had said at the time give back the phone, no replacement phone and we don't feel we will accommodate when the N8 comes out, the press would have had a field day. And Samsung would lose a lot more customers. So they played the game and are still playing it well.

Trade in your current phone, you don't know how much you are getting for it and we will give a discount at our discretion, then you can get a N8.
Oh and by the way if you are with carriers, you are out of gas.
No Samsung and carriers are not playing this right.

A full refund? Yes they refunded the phones. That is the absolute bare minimum they should've done. You know what else they should have done? Return customers to their status prior to their purchase. Tell me again how many customers were able to obtain their original phones if they wanted? And on top of that, they did nothing for those customers who were promised that they could trade their "temporary" S7 models for the N7. You know how they get away with it? Because they can. That's why you still see many customers complaining.

Exactly....full refund would imply that I had received my original N5 back and placed back at my one year status. I even asked for a used one and they said no.

All they did was made us return the N7, shut us up with certain promises and a few goodies, meanwhile still cashing in on every other phone out there.

For those that say, I would have bought a N5 on Ebay. Remember? Everyone was looking for phones at the time. They ran out of N5, S7 and S7 edges at one point.

To me the N8 is just replacing the N7 that Samsung messed up on. End of story.

I'm sorry you're having such a difficult experience. But I have Verizon and I was never promised anything. I purchased a S7 Edge straight out and have sat back waiting for the new Note. Then the S8 came out and I liked it, so I upgraded to that. Now, thankfully the Note 8 is on pre-order. I was offered $480 for my S8, but that offer extended to my paid off S7 edge as well. So I will be keeping the S8 as backup and using my S7 Edge for the discount towards the Note 8. But I went through the entire Note 7 pre-order, the first recall and exchange with a second Note 7. Then the full on recall. I was told my upgrade had been reinstated and I was encouraged to choose a different phone because the Note 7's would all have to be returned. I wasn't told what to buy. If I'm not mistaken, I believe there was a $100 account credit if you stayed loyal to the Samsung brand and chose another Samsung device, though I'm not 100% on that, because I had already paid off my S7 Edge, so it didn't apply for me at the time. After the final Note 7 recall, I just went back to using my paid off S7 Edge. But I was never offered a new Note at any time. Just my experience. Looking forward to the new Note 8!

Most of you didn't have the hellish experience I had trying to get my refund from Tmobile. I returned my Note 7 to a Tombile store and the store botched it up. They only refunded me the sales tax and then said how the rest of the refund would take a few days. Never came and then I ended up arguing back and forth with the 800 people and Tforce. They kept saying to wait another week. Then they finally said I had to go back to the store for the refund since they processed it wrong. Drove 35 miles to the store and they said it was passed 14 days. Then another month of arguing for my money back.

This took a total of 3 months to get my refund. I finally tried Tforce one more time and got someone who was on the ball and my card got refunded back in 3 days after countless excuses and hours on the phone. That was my last option before I was going to email local news reporters about doing a story on it and contacting the attorney general and BBB.

So someone like me has some room to complain after that ordeal.

If they would have came out with an S8 Plus active would you buy it for the flat screen? I know if they had unlocked or Tmobile version I'd be jumping all over it like flies on sh** to get a large phone with flat screen. Too bad the Note 8 doesn't have an active version with a flat screen.

My ideal one would have been the Note 8 to have a flat screen like the Note 5.

Funny you say that... I have the Note 5 laying on the desk right next to me because I was getting info off it for resale purposes. That would make a great combo - I have the Note 5 in an iBlasson case that makes it look like an Active. A Note 8, Flat Screen Active... yeah - that's the ticket!!!

I'm going with the iBlasson case again on the Note 8 so that'll take care of the Active "Look" and "Protection", just not the flat screen.

The ArmorBox isn't a bad price for a thick case. I'm thinking about skipping the Defender this time and buying the Armorbox and Unicorn Beetle case. I currently just got the Caseology Legion case and it is a protective case but want something a bit thicker. If Sams has the Defender in stores soon I might pick it up because they're the cheapest around, even cheaper than Amazon since Amazon charges full MSRP at release for it.

So buying a Note 7, $850. Value of free gift, $200. Return Note 7, receive $850 back. $100 bill credit. Net profit, $300 subtotal
Buying an S7, $700, value of free gift, $150. Trade in $425, net cost, -$125 subtotal
Buying a Note 8, $900. Free gift value $200, net cost $-700 subtotal

Total cost to own a $900 phone: 300-125-700= $575. Total discount = $375, or 41.7% discount. But more importantly, total cost to have a most recent flagship for over two years: $575.
Forget ALL of this. This has nothing to do with the argument about what Samsung did last year. It's about what they're doing now.
No one is asking for Samsung to do all of this. No one is saying Samsung should do more. No one is saying that Samsung should pay off our current phone. (Well, maybe some people are. I'm not about to to read dozens of replies to catch up.)
It's just that Samsung should do an "across the board" deal for former Note7 owners. The carriers should be involved as well since that's how most people originally purchased the Note7.
Forget the trade in. Forget the $425.
Just do something for EVERYONE.
This shouldn't even be a discussion. Why do you some people feel entitled because they paid off their current phone?

A couple of posts address the trade in vs discount and I agree with them. What I don't agree with is the other people who are trying really hard not to say they feel they should have been allowed to use the S7 or Note 5 or even the S8 for free.

My Note 5 and Note 7 had Unicorn Beetle Pro cases and the S7 Active has a Unicorn Beetle Hybrid... sticking with them. The UB Pro for the Note 8 looks good except it comes with a holster that I won't use... just throw it in the corner!!!

I'm not going that far. Some people I think just wish they could have their previous phone back before the Note7 as well.
What you did after returning the Note7 is on that person. HOWEVER, Samsung should have worked with the carriers to offer all former owners a deal.
Either that or don't offer any deal to anyone.
Make it across the board or nothing at all.
