Discussion of the Fascinate root How-To

So i've been trying for the last couple of days to root my Samsung Fascinate OS 2.1, very unsuccessful. I've tried the z4 mod - ( got stuck, pulled battery, tried again, got stuck, pulled battery waited while the wheel continued to spin as if working for over an hour, pulled batter tried again in airplane mode. All unsuccessful). I've also tried the following link:

http://forum.androidcentral.com/verizon-fascinate-rooting-roms-hacks/33899-how-root.html
( Loaded both drivers and tried separately, the files i can get them to push to my phone, and then it turns off my phone, but once it comes back the Root Start program comes up with the time stamp and then the following error message "error device not found" and with that my fascinate is now is media sync mode. ) - I would prefer this method if anyone has some suggestions with this one.

I've also tried something called "odin" (sorry if i sound like a newb) ADB, and anything else on forums, and YouTube videos.

If anyone can help that would be AWESOME.

If you want to root your phone AND move up to Froyo (OS 2.2.1) you can use one of DroidXcon's all-in-one ODIN packages here:
http://forum.androidcentral.com/ver...ged-roms-w-root-clockwork-updated-3-10-a.html
Just follow the instructions to the letter and in less that 20 minutes you will be rooted, have the latest OS, and you will be blown away by how much faster and smoother your Fascinate will be.

so which one is good/stable to use for a first timer?

Depends on what you want. Different flavors for different folks. If you like all of the stuff on your phone from Verizon (VZ Nav, Vcast Video, etc.) then choose stock. If you don't use the VZ bloatware, and would like it automatically removed for you, choose the debloated/deodexed or superclean 2.9. I think most people use sc 2.9 because it is clean, stable, and your phone will be rocking fast with it. Coming from a stock Eclair build you will need to use the one that wipes data (EB16SC29_DXC.tar) Just follow all of the instructions in the thread to the letter, take your time, and in less than 20 minutes you will be done and be loving your phone. If you have any questions along the way, just post them in that thread and someone will help you.

TY Droidxcon/landshark,
no do i need cwm-recovery-ALL.tar at all or is odin all i need to flash EB16SC29_DXC.tar.md5 and be up and running?

ok, next question. was reading [ROM]Superclean 2.9.1 EA15/EB01/EB16 Based and saw this "Yup same directions just use one of those files, but chances are if you are running 2.6 you already have one of those modems. you can check this by Settings>about phone>baseband should end in either DL09 or EB01 ". no my baseband says EA28. will that be a problem if i flash EB16SC29_DXC.tar.md5? or does 2.9 have either DL09 or EB01.

thanks again guys

Using 1 click root/ adb not recognized issues

Hello community! First I want to start out by saying I just joined today so I hope this is in the right section. I'm also brand new to this whole "root" thing so bare with me. :)

Problem: I'm currently trying use the "How to Root" http://forum.androidcentral.com/fascinate-roms-hacks/33899-how-root.html and I am following every step exactly how it is posted. The issue I'm running into is when I run the program on step 3 "Run START_ROOT" the first thing it says is pushing the varies files to my phone and then it says 'adb' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file. It says that multiple times and finishes the root almost instantly. Now I know that my phone could not possibly do it that fast. If anyone could help me I would greatly appreciate it.

Thank you for the fast reply. I am now using your thread and have restarted all the steps. The same problem is occurring however. In the command program it says "testing if your device is connected. The next line says 'adb' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file. Could there be a setting on my phone that could be stopping the "connection". Also does it matter that I have LauncherPro running? Not sure if this matters or not but when I connect my phone to the pc I hear the connection sound (I'm running windows 7/64 bit) but I can't seem to find the actual connection under "Computer". Thanks again for your time.

Super noob root question

Please forgive my ignorance as I am very new to rooting.

First Let me thank everyone on AC for all the very helpful info. I just used DroidXcon's One click root and I am wondering what the difference is between:

1 click root
ADB rooting
CWM + Root Combo

What are the pros and cons of each? Im sure this has been asked and answered I just couldnt find anything on it. It seems the more I read the more confused I become.

As I said I am a complete and total noob so I greatly appreciate all the helpful answers and advice given.

Thanks
M

the first 2 give you root access only. droidxcons package give you root, cwm, and custom rom in one step.

If you use of of DroidXCon's odin packages, it will give you root, cwm, and superuser application in 1 step. There is nothing better than the 2.9 superclean version. It is extremely stable and you will love it. Just make sure to wipe your cache's as explained in DroidXcon's posts and you will have nothing to worry about. The first 2 options were earlier options needed before the Odin packages were made available. Take the leap - you will not be sorry. If you do run into problems, post back and many people will be here to help you out.

If I have already donr the 1 click root should I "un-root" before I use the Odin Package?

need help, can't see phone

i've rooted my own Samsung Fascinate, via instructions posted in the forums, and am trying to do the same for my girlfriends, but my computer keeps dropping sight of the phone upon the first reboot. Initially it will see it, and after the reboot, i've gone through the motions of disabling the media sync, waiting for the computer to see it, and sometimes it does, but it either won't or it comes back as USB storage. either way, the root is unable to finish because the computer doesn't see it as the phone anymore. i have reinstalled the samsung drivers as well. Help!, i'm sure it's something simple.

is the phone in USB debugging mode?

go to Settings>Applications>Development

Make Sure "USB debugging" is checked
