Hi I've never rooted my phone before and am not quite sure what to do. I'm coming from stock EA 28 but wood like to try out super clean 2.8. What do I need to root? Will I lose all my text messages I have in the process? Can I back up my phone in case of trouble? lol help someone

I've merged your thread with the rooting help thread. You can also checkout this thread by Sheepdog Elite and this thread by DroidXcon. After checking those out, please post here if you have any further questions.

A lot of people spend a lot of their time creating threads that answer all of these questions..

Just wanted to say thanks for the help last night. I was getting ready root my Fascinate with Odin but decided to try the one click method one more time and it actually worked. So now I need to figure out what I need to do next. Thanks again for your help.

check out thr superclean 2.8 thread. its a great rom.

you could have used odin without root,,,but yes you can

No, you use clockwork mod to change ROMs, EDIT - or you can do like DXC said and use the full ODIN package.

He was able to restore back to the stock but still was unable to load

Tips for using odin:
Use USB ports in the back of the computer(if you already are try a different port)
disable any antivirus you have
make sure battery is completely removed when flashing

problems rooting my fascinate

ok i am running the "one click root" file. when i click continue after i hook up the phone, it lists every root file and says "is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program, or batch file...then it does nothing. doesnt reboot phone or anything. waited a FULL 5 minutes and still nothing. what am i not doing correctly?

debugging is on, and usb is set to mass storage

did you download and install the drivers,,,,is your phone in debugging mode, because according to that read out it is not recognizing your phone being connected

actually , redownload the root folder again and delete the one you are currently using
