Do you prefer instant messaging or texting?

I tend to texting, more traditional way, with older people. And instant messaging with younger ones.

I tend to texting, more traditional way, with older people. And instant messaging with younger ones or when on travel.

I use both, but I prefer the text. When I need to talk more, I use the chat clients (not IM) - IRC or similar.

On the computer, IM.

On the phone, texting. If I am on the phone, I am probably out doing things. That does not lend itself to IM.

I prefer texting to instant messaging... I don't know, there's something still so magical about getting a text... Although I love the layout of Facebook Messenger, I must say.

It depends on the context. If our friends and family are having a smart phone and aware of how to use IM apps, then it would be IM. Else, it is better to stick with texting, because old people were used to that.

Text messaging most of the time for me. If it's an ongoing group chat, then usually Hangouts.

I prefer texting because it doesn't depend on the other person already being on some secondary thing. If they have a phone, i can reach them, and if i don't feel like using my phone i use pushbullet.

Back to the roots! Messaging and texting always brings Drama! I prefer calling before texting hours! :)

IM definetly. But sometime when the 4G coverage is not so good I switch to text.

In my opinion, I enjoy texting more. My friends tend to text more and ever since I moved, it's a great way to keep in touch.

I prefer the way apple does it with iMessage (technically IM) how if the other person has an iPhone or iDevice it automatically sends it via internet but if not it sends it through text message. This method makes it so that the way you send messages is seamless.

I use both, Mostly use hangouts for instant messaging since most people i chat with use hangouts

WhatsApp and bbm for me...its been a long time since I've sent or received a txt
