Do you really experience signal issue with your GN?

Do you own a GN, and experience the signal issue?

No one is saying that the phone can't be fixed with updates. For all we know, the problem will be resolved with a software update, just like the Bolt. The problem is that big red hasn't communicated this fact to us. Actually they did admit a problem, then Anandtech posted their article, and big red used that to discredit the issue, almost immediately.

In previous posts, here and on AF, you yourself tried to defunct the issue, claiming that the "whinners" were just in poor reception areas. After I saw your mobile network signal bar, I understood why. Your phone gets immaculate service. Unfortunately, mine doesn't. It's not because of my location. As I said earlier, I travel all around NYC. You have to figure that somewhere in this densely populated city, I'd be able to get great reception like you, but that hasn't happened in two weeks.

Now you're saying that the device can't be compared to previous LTE phones because they have had updates to make their reception better. While that is true for the first four, the Rezound hasn't. How do you explain that? The bottom line is that the Nexus MAY get better reception with software updates, but as of right now, for many of us, service has been poor. Are we at fault for coming on here and complaining that the $300 flagship phone, that we waited months for, is disappointing us, due to lack of service? Is there something wrong with trying to get a consensus of how widespread the issue is? Isn't that the point of forums?

I think that enough people have posted on this, and various other forums, for the naysayers to concede, and realize that there is a problem. It may be isolated to some devices, given that yours are working as expected, but that is no reason to claim the problem is imaginary. I really wish the fanbois would stop being so quick to defend their device. I love ICS, Android, and LTE, but not enough to blindly defend it, when people are having actual problems. does nothing to help the device or the issues.

Well the rezound is an htc the nexus is a samsung lol. I never said it wasn't a problem if you read my posts I said that not everyone has the issue. If only one person had an issue I would say it is most likely their phone since nobody else is reporting it. I think it may have more to do with lte and handoffs along with samsungs radio. Only time will tell though.

I can't wait until the people complain once the rezound or other phones get updated to ICS. HTC was terrible at getting the devices updated and when they did not completely borking a lot of phones. I hope they learned after the thunderbolt update fiasco and how many ota's they issued that messed up more than they fixed. They seemed to have learned a little more about getting better battery life we shall see if they learned from the thunderbolt with updates also.

I don't wish ill on any owners of other phones, I just want the Nexus reception issues to be solved. I'm sure the bulk of people buying the Rezound did not do so with the expectation of an immediate upgrade to ICS. Hell, I bet most don't even know what ICS is. But fortunately for them, most Rezound owners probably have no clue what data drops are either since they probably don't encounter them or if they do, it's very seldom.

I thought my Droid X and X2 had good coverage. In my house I always got at least 2 bars and in my parents house which seems to block all reception, I always had 1 bar. With my GN, I have 1 bar or none in my house, but I can still use it...and Ive probably only dropped 2 calls since I got it. But at my parents house I had absolutely no reception with the GN. None. I literally had to walk 15 feet from the house to pick it up. Thats unacceptable. Even my parents old fashioned cell phones can pick up a signal in their house, even though its weak and spotty. To me thats proof that the GN has bad reception. I hope it gets fixed. As of now Verizon keeps saying it has great reception, but the bars arent showing it. Thats a bunch of bull. Even my Blackberry and Palm Treo got 1 bar at my parents house. I have no other problems with this phone, now that I have fixed them all myself. And I want to keep it, but its pretty sad if I have to buy a network booster just to hold on to it.

I remember that I mentioned of the signal drop out possibility in the newer baseband. So, I decided to report an update here.

I confirm today that it still drops with the newer baseband. It just happened to me today. How nice! :D

I just put it into the airplane mode and got it back quickly. Yet, it's a drop.

So, FYI, do not expect to have the signal drop issue wiped out on the EK04 baseband.

I'm one of those who switched from the GN to a Rezound and I'm aware that HTC may be slow to getting out updates but so is Moto and other manufacturers. The thing for me is I buy a smart phone for 3 functuions, 1 as a phone then to send and receive text/emails and third to use it to browse the internet when I'm at work. If a phone can not perform these 3 needed functions what good is it to me? My most usage is texting and browsing I rarely talk on the phone, the GN worked well with texting. But when it came to getting on the internet you can forget that period. It just would not keep a signal long enough to allow me to browse. Even when switched over to cdma mode it still just would not lock on. So I began reading these forums and studing between the Razr and Rezound and the conclusion I based my purchase on was the Rezound had far less issues than the Razr. Connectivitiy issues was null compared to the Razr, The build of the razr attracted me to a point but the the design did not. My main point of interest was being able to get online in the areas I frequent the most. Well the Rezound has proven to me that it is more than capable of doing this and with no loss connectivity issues other than Verizons network going down. Then I set it over to CDMA and I was good to go.

Point being here is it doesn't matter who makes the phone if it does not perform to my or any of you guys and gals out there expectations and give the service we pay for why keep it? Really what good is it oh except for the tinkers who like to root add this and remove that and for the others who feels they have got to have the best and newest on the market. But for the rest of us who use it as it comes out of the box it's no good if it doesn't work. So this is why I returned mine and got the Rezound and as i have said it has to this date which now is a week of owning it not once given me any issues or lost data connection. Matter of fact I have better service from this phone than any phone I have ever owned. This is just my opinion folks and based on real world usage not graphs and lab results but every day live traveling to and from home and other locations I frequent in my daily routines. Some of you may have a different experience but this is mine.

One more thing, In todays society it's linked to social networking and being able to stay in touch with our family and friends, The one other thing that turned me against the GN before I even knew of the signal issues was the fact it would not sink my FB contacts. Now come on Whats up with that? I know what they say but I've never had any issue with FB on any other device and to make an excuse FB isn't keeping up with technology is a lame excuse to not include this feature on the GN. There are too many engineers out there that can make it work and has the ability to. That there was strike #1 for me with my short owned GN and like I said this was before I even knew about the signal issue.

OK thats my story and I'm sure there are those of you who can relate and those who can't and thats fine. The bottom line is it's a phone first and then a tool next then a toy for the rest of it's features.

Yes and the external speaker sucks. I hear popping and static a lot from it. I am debating whether to keep this phone or not for that reason unless there can be some kind of fix.

Can the external speaker be fixed by software? Someone on another thread said it could by regulating the power that is delivered to the speaker. Does that sound right to you?

Yes, I experience signal issues. But, I have not really dropped calls, or anything like that. I think I have experienced far more problems with 3G/4G LTE going down lately than I have experienced problems with "poor" signal.

My GN is stuck in boot-looping hell, so I will be exchanging it for a new unit tonight.

In the meantime I reactivated my Droid X for today and the signal difference is astonishing.

GN got next to no signal at my desk here at work. Could barely refresh Twitter or or download a MMS message. Sending a gmail often took 2-3 minutes to send. Market wouldn't even open, impossible to play Words with Friends ect.

Droid X has 3-4 bars of 3G at all times and lets me stream Netflix like I used to.

It's not that the Droid X is a little bit better at getting the signal, it's absolutely night and day better. Astonishingly better.

Going to be hard for me to exchange the GN tonight and not take a serious look at the Razr.

What's the point of having an amazing phone like the GN and it can't even keep up with my 2 year old Droid X when it comes to the most basic function of getting signal?

To voice your concerns about the GNex:

Samsung's Contact Information

Verizon's Contact Information

Google's Galaxy Nexus Site

Contact Samsung directly: (888) 987-4357

*611 from your VZW cell phone or (800) 922-0204 from a land line to call Verizon directly

I think anyone having an issue should speak up so we can get these issues addressed and hopefully fixed. I don't want to give up my phone; I want it to work properly.

You can find the email of the guy who developed the android kernel online.

Excellent information, CarryMe! I appreciate it!

Now this is the action we really had better do if we want to keep our GNs, rather than venting the frustration to other fellow GN users.

You are welcome. I have called VZW about mine and will call Samsung, too. I may email the guy at google, too. Don't know if he is the right person or not, but at least someone at Google would be aware of the problem without the info being filtered through VZW or Sammy.

It seems like the problem is the hand-off between 3G and 4G and/or the threshold at which the GNex lets go of or will grab onto the 4G signal wouldn't you say? It only seems to be a problem for those of us who live in areas where the 4G coverage is not as strong as in the major metro areas.

Sounds to me like some of these phones are defective and should be returned for a new one. I'm holding off on my iPhone vs GN decision for now. I live in a 3G only area but I get great reception on my Dinc. This almost sounds like Apple antennagate or something. All I wanted the GN for was the big beautiful screen and the ICS system.

I haven't picked up a Gnex yet. I'm still holding onto my Trophy until I see if these issues get resolved. I read through all the pages, and I understand the people losing data completely being upset. But the people who say they are only getting 10Mbps compared to 40 on the Rezound. Does it really make that much of a difference? I mean I can see if you are constantly downloading apps or music. But for general web browsing, is it even noticeable? I'm not trying to call anyone out, I'm just curious. I've never had 4g so maybe I just wouldn't understand. Lol.

No. Not even a little.

This is my first 4G device. I do not get why people have such a boner for 4G. 10Mbps is plenty fast to stream anything you will display on your phone. Well.

For things like web browsing ect...I have noticed almost no difference. The main benefit I got from it is (finally) being able to use voice and data at the same time. THAT is useful to me.

I'd like to suggest one good strategy to send a message to VZW. When your GN drop the signal connection totally and won't restore (when you see completely zero bar), try calling VZW CSR from another phone. Explain the situation and ask him/her to call your GN. He/she will end up getting to your voicemail. Tell your location, tell what other VZW phones around you are currently showing. CSR would be at a loss. Some CSRs may suggest replacing your GN. Tell him/her that you heard many other GNs are suffering the issue. Make sure to comment in your account profile (by CSR) that you may have to return your GN if some fix is not done by the last day to return.

By using this method, we will be able to accumulate legitimate issues of the same symptom, and show our willingness to return our GNs if the issue is not addressed by 1/15. If each of those who responded to this poll saying "I have the issue" could record the complaint to VZW at least once, we will be able to send at least 150 unavoidable messages to VZW.

I agree about 10Mbps being enough. Which was kinda dumb to me that the Exynos chip on the GS2 was shunned for LTE, 4G by the phone companies. It doesnt do faster than 21 Mbps...When did ONLY getting 21Mbps speeds become bad?

I will do that next time.

Stopped by the VZW store, they are blaming the problem on network trouble and maybe that is what is going on. I had 4G -63dBm in the store but they must use a network extender because it wasn't like that once I pulled out of the parking lot - went back to 3G.

It was shunned because it does not work right with lte, not because it only went to 21mbps

Did you get a replacement card for the issue you were having?
