1. Date phone purchased. 12/15
2. Last phone owned was. HTC Thunderbolt
3. Generally, are you using it in a known strong or weak area. Mediocre at home, very weak at office
4. High Low range of dBm. -90 to -110
5. Has your data dropped unusually. No.
6. If you compare to your prior phone or a friend's, do you have more, less or equivalent data service. I would say equivalent.
7. Have you exchanged the phone for a new Nexus. No
8. If yes, has the new Nexus remedied your problem. N/A
9. Will you return the phone for a different make if your issues are not resolved. Probably not.
10. If this thread were to "half life" and not get traffic, should I start a new thread with same survey. Maybe

Here is mine.

Ok, I have an update. Today I decided to completely disable 4G, and low and behold, no issues. First attachment is the screenshot for battery usage/connectivity for today with 3G only, and the second is from yesterday with 4G enabled. Keep in mind, I live in an area of excellent 4G coverage. Both days, I left my phone in nearly the same spot on the coffee table.
What do the various colors mean (red, green, blue, and grey)? Without that this doesn't tell me anything because I don't have the phone.

1. Date phone purchased. 12/26/11
2. Last phone owned was. Not a smart phone
3. Generally, are you using it in a known strong or weak area. VZW says it is strong
4. High Low range of dBm. -123dBm to -83dBm
5. Has your data dropped unusually. It has dropped, but since I did not have a smart phone previously, I don't know if it is unusual or not
6. If you compare to your prior phone or a friend's, do you have more, less or equivalent data service. Only have 3G iPhones to compare it to
7. Have you exchanged the phone for a new Nexus. No
8. If yes, has the new Nexus remedied your problem.
9. Will you return the phone for a different make if your issues are not resolved. Maybe

Add me to the list of those having issues with the Nexus. I would classify what I am seeing more of a reliable data connection than as a signal issue as this poll would suggest.

First, there seems to be a problem related to LTE to 3G handoffs. I have noticed this while steaming audio and driving from a known LTE area to a 3G area. Sometimes that transition is completely seamless with no loss of data connection. Other times I notice a brief (just a few seconds) loss of data connection. Other times I notice extended periods (10 to 15 minutes) of loss of data where I have plenty of bars but no 3G indicator. There is a lot of speculation the Nexus has a weak LTE baseband radio. In my case I found the Nexus actually holds on to LTE much longer that my previous phone, the thunderbolt.

Second, at my home the Nexus really struggles to get LTE. Almost the only place that I can get LTE is outside sitting on my front steps. By comparison, my old thunderbolt did a much better job of acquiring and holding onto LTE. The thunderbolt would fall back to 3G sometimes in my house sometimes depending where I was but with the Nexus I almost never even get LTE in my house. Also, I could force the thunderbolt into a LTE only mode, something that cannot be done with the Nexus that I am aware of. I find it interesting that the Nexus wants to hold onto LTE better than it will require LTE. Also in my home with the Nexus I have also noticed that the 3G indicator sometimes will disappear while having plenty of bars. Sometimes this was for a brief time, other times it lasted for extended periods. The other day it lasted for over an hour before the data connection was restored. By the way I live in an area with very good 3G coverage.

At this point I have decided to return the Nexus and go back to my old thunderbolt and wait until an update is hopefully issued to fix this problem. I would recommend that if you are having problems to contact VerizonWireless. Before I returned my phone I called customer service and they agreed to wave the restocking fee since they had a record of my problem. I could have waited until January 15th to return it. However, from my experience as a software developer I do not see them identifying and fixing this by my return date and publicly VerizonWireless is saying that the problem is just a signal reporting issue not a real problem. While I am hopeful that this can be fixed or improved with a software update it is possible that this is a hardware problem related to how the 3G and LTE basebands interact. At this point in time it is impossible to determine if this is a hardware or software problem and if it can even be fixed or improved. Only time will tell?

The Droid 1 was the same way. Never lost 3G on it. I even got full 3G speeds while camping in the mountains.

Yeah, I have had the Rezound for about a week, and zero signal issues, no matter what part of town I am in. I love how powerful it's GPS is as well. I have never used a phone with GPS this good.

I do remember those instant lock ons with the Rezound GPS. But the Nexus isn't bad and is much improved over previous Samsungs.

1. Date phone purchased. 12/15/11
2. Last phone owned was. VZW iPhone 4
3. Generally, are you using it in a known strong or weak area. Strong
4. High Low range of dBm.
5. Has your data dropped unusually. Yes. Frequently. The phone also doesn't reconnect to data after being in an elevator or garage or other area without a signal. Need to reboot usually to get data back.
6. If you compare to your prior phone or a friend's, do you have more, less or equivalent data service. iPhone 3G data service was more consistent. Didn't have these issues.
7. Have you exchanged the phone for a new Nexus. No
8. If yes, has the new Nexus remedied your problem.
9. Will you return the phone for a different make if your issues are not resolved. Maybe

Though every phone would be different in terms of GPS capability, I would say I am 10 times happier with my GN's GPS, when I came from my previous HTC Thunderbolt.... :D

Yeah, D1 was the lord of the GPS.... I still do not see faster lock on.

The only thing it really improved on IMO was the display. In every other respect I'd rather just have a stock Galaxy S2 (and I am a huge fan of the Galaxy S2).

The Nexus is not bad at all. I would take it over any other phone right now except the Rezound and maybe the Razr. The signal issues would not be a deal killer for me.

red=no signal
green=very strong signal
yellow= signal in between strong and no signal
There are shades to the yellow. One is more like brown, then more bronze, then more yellow/gold. My assumption is the more yellow, as in closer to green, the better the signal. Do you know if I'm correct with this? Make sense to you?

I've been wondering about this forever, but hadn't looked it up yet. I know my service is pretty damn crappy in my office, but this will help me figure out what I'm looking like at home.

I will say that the Rezound is a true champ. I don't think the Rezound is the norm, I think it is the exception. It holds 4G and 3G better than any phone I've seen. My friend that works for VZW (not a sales a rep) says they are seeing Rezound, Breakout, and Charge (post-gingerbread update) hold LTE the best, in that order.

I bought my phone on 15 December from Costco (Fredericksburg, VA). I have issues with both data and phone calls dropping. I have not tried moving to CDMA only. I can try that, but the reason I'm going to ask this question is that I think tomorrow will be the last day I can return the phone (14 day return policy at Costco, as I recall), so I'm not sure I have sufficient time to fully test and answer my own question.

Our area has absolutely no 4G coverage at all yet, therefore there should be no 4G/3G data handoff issues. If I switch to CDMA only, is there any hope that I will be able to hold phone calls and receive at LEAST 1X in places that my original Droid never had problems?
I love this phone, and I resent the fact that I'll probably have to return it.

I have had 3 occasions just in the last week of ownership, where the Galaxy Nexus had me at least 5 miles and at most 60+ miles off from my actual location. I confirmed this in multiple applications like Google Maps, Foursquare, etc. I've probably used the GPS 10 times total in the 10 days of ownership, so 3/10 isn't exactly stellar.

I'm seeing a big difference indoors as well with my 3G connection being much stronger. Actually the dB is very similar to what I had with my DX and Dinc2. The dB when using 4G is much worse but I still have good data connection.

Since the 3G inside of my house is the same as my last 2 phones I'm hoping this is a good sign that it may be mainly a 4G issue and can be fixed with a software update. Hopefully we will all know for sure before Jan. 15th.

yup all the time...on new radios too....thought that might help....nope

I also get this weird thing, were under the battery it is showing green for signal, but I'm not actually connected, I have 0 blue bars, but it is showing green. I can't go on the web or anything, I'll upload a screenshot once I get signal again, its been like for about 20 minutes......apparently LTE is out right now lol

1. Date phone purchased. 12/16
2. Last phone owned was. OG Droid
3. Generally, are you using it in a known strong or weak area. Very strong at office, extremely weak at home (run airplane mode wifi at home)
4. High Low range of dBm. -75 to -121 (this is just what I've seen, don't have an app to record)
5. Has your data dropped unusually. YES.
6. If you compare to your prior phone or a friend's, do you have more, less or equivalent data service. Other people in office on other phones, no issues.
7. Have you exchanged the phone for a new Nexus. No (but I think I might do that)
8. If yes, has the new Nexus remedied your problem. N/A
9. Will you return the phone for a different make if your issues are not resolved. I don't know, this is getting extremely annoying
10. If this thread were to "half life" and not get traffic, should I start a new thread with same survey. Yes

Guys, take some rest off your GN for now. With this outage, there is no reason to take a look at your GN, at least now. :D

Someone reported that he heard from VZW CSR about ETA 9:00PM PST for full recovery......

I switched mine to 3G and am getting great service during this outage. But its on EVDo Rev A. not eHRPD

I'm on CDMA only and I got what I got... very low signal! I was wondering, even though my phone is the only phone at home suffering from low signal would it be feasible to get a network extender? I could only help the other phones here as I don't seem to have as much problems out and about. Just a thought.

We're in Boston now and this outrage scared me a bit since I didn't know it occurred. We were in Home Depot and out went my 4G and 3G on my Nexus. But for some reason my Razr held on to it about 15 minutes longer. I figured 'here we go, the Nexus is going down hill'. But then the Razr lost both the 4G and 3G too. I don't know why the Razr held on longer.

as a prospective new owner, i really can't wait to see a sister thread with a poll "How Many with Previous Signal Issues are now Fixed?. this is basically all i care about when deciding if I go Nexus or not. no good signal, no nexus.
