What does the black area in your mobile network signal bar mean?
I think they are the moments I put my GN to the airplane mode.

It could also be that 40% are in a strong signal area that tends not to affect the GNex.

Coming from the Charge which had OK service to the GN and then onto the Rezound after my connectivity issues with the GN I can verify based on my experience my Rezound is best phone overall of the three I get continuous connectivity even get 4 g in areas I never could with the charge and in those same areas I couldn't even get 3g on the GN.
Everyone is on the hype of ICS and overly excited of this new UI and until those who have no issues trvale beyond the highly saturated area to one which isn't they will to experience these same issues. Instead of doing this to prove there is a problem they blindly turn there eye and stay within there safe zone.
No doubt is is software.... not enough code weeks have happened so to jump at the hardware is premature.
I'm getting cold feet about this phone. I won't get 4G where I live, but I get 3G fine with my Dinc. My wife's iPhone never drops anything. I never understood why anyone with WiFi would ever use anything else at home or work. I won't dl my app updates unless there's Wifi, I set it like that.
Most do not have issues with 3g it is 4g that is causing issues. Plus if you are using wifi that is one thing you won't have to worry about is the network dropping in or out. I would wait a little longer and see how the next update does with the device and if it helps those that are having issues.
The Droid 1 was the same way. Never lost 3G on it. I even got full 3G speeds while camping in the mountains. That's an interesting point. As hard as it is to say, my wife's IPhone just kills the reception of virtually ant LTE phone I've seen. Granted we're talking only 3G, but I've very rarely seen her phone drop 3G ever.
Yeah, I have had the Rezound for about a week, and zero signal issues, no matter what part of town I am in. I love how powerful it's GPS is as well. I have never used a phone with GPS this good.I've been saying that for some time. If you want the best radio/reception, the Rezound is the answer. For those living in fringe areas where the best data connectivity is critical, the Rezound beats the Nexus.
As you read more of these owner's reports, it becomes more obvious these are not isolated observations.
True. 55% just means 55% of registered Android central users coming to see this thread. Out of general public, the percentage will be way lower, IMO.
ITA. Lots of users aren't as technically savvy as the people here and aren't paying attention to their signal strength or even if they have 3G or 4G so they won't even know they have a problem unless they drop calls or can't access data at all.Um...how do you know it is not much higher? After all, only a tiny percentage of GN users frequent this forum. How did you determine that the numbers here are not in fact too low? It could be that these issues are more common than you think but we are simply not hearing about it on here yet.

Could we continue this thread using a more scientific method? I don't want to start another thread and wrile everyone up. Also, if you have already posted, could you please repost with your answers. Please try to keep your wifi usage out of the survey as it will skew the results.
1. Date phone purchased. 12/15
2. Last phone owned was. thunderbolt/fascinate/original droid
3. Generally, are you using it in a known strong or weak area. Kind of in the middle, not weak but not really super strong either
4. High Low range of dBm. -75 to -93
5. Has your data dropped unusually. nope
6. If you compare to your prior phone or a friend's, do you have more, less or equivalent data service. same if not more than friends with a droid charge, droid 2
7. Have you exchanged the phone for a new Nexus. No
8. If yes, has the new Nexus remedied your problem.
9. Will you return the phone for a different make if your issues are not resolved. No issues so no, not going to return it
10. If this thread were to "half life" and not get traffic, should I start a new thread with same survey.
That's what's happening to me. It's in one specific area. If I fire up my Fascinate (also running ICS) it gets a decent 3G connection. My Palm shows full strength in the same area. But even if you take the "bars" out, the fact is my 3G phones work fine in this area and the GN doesn't.....was now in a Verizon store where every other 4g demo phone was blazing fast on 4g, and they couldn't get it to connect to even 3g let alone 4g.
