Do you think Verizon is dropping the ball?

Now after that announcement I think the ball was dropped. If I were HTC I would be livid.

Best Buy to have retail exclusive for HTC Thunderbolt

Why would they care? Best Buy is the largest electronics retailer in the United States. Verizon is the largest wireless carrier in the United States. I am sure Best Buy paid a pretty penny for that exclusivity. Hence why they are so gung ho to get this thing out the door in between other phone releases. Also, Best Buy probably has a huge advertising budget, particularly in Mobile, and once it's announced... we won't be able to get Best Buy to shut up about it.

HTC is going to sell a bunch of devices and get it's name out there. Verizon is going to have a ton of new customers on their brand spanking new network... and Best Buy is going to sell a ton of mobile phone accessories and devices.

Does no one else on these forums know how deals & business works? You do realize HTC and/or VZW probably received a FAT check from Best Buy to be the "exclusive 3rd party retailer" for like, 30 days ? They are not pissed in the least lol.

And again, the phone will be available through VZW too. Best Buy will be the only other place (3rd party retailer) to get it, for a while.

These "exclusive" deals are win-win situations for all parties involved. Best Buy gets the traffic in their stores for people wanting to jump on the Tbolt bandwagon, Verizon gets the contract and doesn't lose the money on the subsidy (even though they'll also be selling them), and both HTC and Verizon get a nice fat check for that deal.

After failing to take advantage of the greatest advertising opportunity, that being the Superbowl with a record 111,000,000 people watching, yes I think they are.
