Do you use the always on display?

You cannot activate the display or unlock with AOD. So, not sure where the OP issue is. Because AOD does not turn on the display even without this setting on or off.

In my experience, with AOD off and the "keep screen turned off" setting activated, notifications do not wake up the phone or show in the screen when in the pocket. With AOD on, the setting does not work and notifications will wake up the phone and show on the screen. The music player will also show on AOD and can be activated accidentally. I have had several occasions where I have been walking with the phone in my pocket when it starts playing music.

So, we are talking two things here.

AOD itself doesn't activate the display. As you said, other actions, like "press a button" can activate the display. Totally different conversations.
Yeah, I had a temporary moment of stupidity there. Don't know why when I know full well my AOD turns off when the proximity sensor is covered.

@Gdwheel, perhaps if you put the device in your pocket facing the display put, away from your body, so your body can't press the virtual home button.....?

Thanks. I know there are ways to get around it, but why will it not go to sleep when AOD is on and it is in your pocket? DAV1978, try again to have the AOD turn off when you cover the proximity sensor. It dims, because it is dark, but it does not turn off. If you swipe to the left, the music controls appear and can be activated. I know this is not the point of the thread, and I apologize, I just question why it does not work right.

I love my always on display. It usually helps me or prevents me from going into my actual phone to check notifications.

It definitely does turn off. I've just covered the sensor and timed it. It took 25 secs for the AOD screen to dim then it completely turned off around the 1 minute mark

Nope. Not worth the cost in battery life.
That my friend is true. The biggest side effect is that AOD eats battery. I usually keep it off when I am traveling or at times when I want to save battery. When I don't, I love the fact I can have many different AOD themes and enjoy them thoroughly!

I don't use it either. You still have to press a button to read the notifications so I just don't use AOD.

With AOD you just tap on the icon and will take you directly to that app, of course, you need to unlock the device if that is required.

To read the notification, you still have to go to the lock screen. I would rather read them just by turning on the display so I keep AOD off.

I have major OCD and whenever I see any phone with a screen on when it's supposed to be off I get like all freaked out for lack of better word at the moment

I usually tell my friends to turn there phones on their screens so I don't see it cause my eyes automatically go to the AOD

so to answer the threads question no I do not use it ahaha

Treatment is available for this. ;). But, no, I don't use AOD.

I had the S8+, now Note 8. Usually use the Always onDisplay and never noticed any battery drain from it. I like using it most often with an image.
