Does anyone really care about how much a phone weighs?

I mean, seriously. They always include it in reviews and breakdowns and act like it's such an important statistic. But I've never heard anyone say, "Man, this phone is sure getting heavy. I just can't text any more...my wrists hurt. I wish it was 3 grams lighter."

The only thing about the weight is picking one up, I may say, "Wow, this is light," or "Wow, this is pretty solid." After that, I don't give it a second thought.

Am I all wet here? Are there people out there thinking, "Well, I really really like that new______ smartphone, but I'm afraid I'll get tired and sore using it."

While it might now be in the front of everyone's mind it does factor into the overall user experience. Some people prefer a heftier phone and lighter is better for others.

I never think about it much, except for when I used the Nokia Lumia 920 for awhile. That thing is a brick! If your pants aren't tight it'll work them down when it's in the pocket. Even the users that love the 920 joke about the weight!

The pre iPhone 5s were bricks. The only reason I bought the 5 was the weight.

I personally don't put too much thought in the weight of a phone unless it weighs the same as a brick.
They just include the weight in tests as some people may want to know that stat.
As long as the phone feels good held in the hand weight doesn't matter.

you know its funny because the iphone 4/4S weigh about the same as the htc one (140g vs 143g). yet, paradoxically, i did find my old iphone 4S "heavy", but i don't find the htc one to be so.

it has to be psychological i suppose - expecting a larger device to be of a certain weight and finding it's lighter.

anyone else has had this feeling?

Weight is one of the most important factors in my opinion. A phone that is a little heavier feels better in my hand. I heavier phone also gives me a sense of security that my phone will withstand a fair amount of abuse. My bb 9930 was practically a football, It spend a lot of time falling out of my hands or lap as I got out of the car. Except for a few minor cosmetic dings on the stainless steel boarder it was solid as I rock.

While not a deal breaker weight does come into play for me. I went from a 3gs in a case to Atrix 2 in a case the two was lighter but still had enough heft. I then went to a Pantch flex which was super light and would easily fly out of my hand compared to the heavier phones. So while the idea of lighter seems better to me, my real world experience is that a little bit heavier phone is safer for me. As long as it doesn't weigh so much it's making my Dickies fall of while it's in my cellphone pocket I'm all good.

I don't think some are getting the point. Yes, I know there are differences, and I don't want anyone's pants falling off from the weight.

Let me put it another way: Has anyone ever had or used a phone and said or thought, "I just can't use this phone - it's too light/heavy."

No I've never been like this thing is too heavy to tote around. I may have felt differently if I had gotten the One Max, but that is a large phone and being such one should expect a bit of heft. Logically speaking. On the flip side I would not mind carrying a bit more weight if the added weight was battery. I carried the OG droid Inc and after a few weeks picked up the extended battery for it and honestly the added bulk and weight didn't bother me after the first few days of not having to live next to an outlet or carry extra batteries. Actually it the only time I heard of weight being a factor was when I owned the Inc. A poster wanted to ask about keyboards and batteries for his wife who had, something I recall that caused her hands to shake and be unsteady, anyway, I suggested that he try a swype type keyboard if hitting the keys was an issue and an extended battery to give her something more to hold onto. Not sure if he ever used either???? But in that case I guess weight could come into play.

One of the main reasons I chose the ONE over the S4 was the build(weight) in comparison to the S4 which seemed almost toyish; so I guess my answer would be yes, weight matters. IMHO.

Reviewers also talk about brightness in every review. That doesn't bother you? The reviewers act like it's "such an important statistic" right? I mean because they mentioned it, it has to be "such an important statistic" right? Because, of course if you have the brightness too high you can burn your retinas, right? That IS the inference from the reviews, right?

While a phone's weight is not as important to me a tablet's weight really is. A phone only needs to feel solid and durable to me. Personally, I think the iPhone5 is a little anorexic for my tastes and I preferred the iPhone 4's weight. Too much weight on a tablet means I'm not gonna wanna hold it for long whereas too little weight and I'm likely to think its cheapish and flimsy.

I think the battery is one of the heavier components. So by trimming weight, you are affecting battery life.

I don't care how much it weighs. I do care how it "feels" in my hands....too big...too small...too wide...etc. I don't say WOW! I really love that phone but man, I gotta hit the gym and bulk up my forearms and wrists and not to mention the money spent on muscle milk....geeesh!

Some sites DO stress the importance of weight especially when comparing it to others....iphone comes to mind here.

Lighten up, Francis. I don't have to give any examples because every review mentions it, either briefly in passing or including numerous statements about it.

And you're seriously going to try and compare the brightness of a display (one of the most important characteristics of ANY device) to a few grams or (gasp!) a whole ounce difference in weight? Really?
