Does anyone regret not getting a Nexus?

It's all good, and I see alot of trolling about peoples choice of phone.

Personally I will not bait nor talk down to anyone about their choice of phone. The way I see it they all run Android, and a persons choice of phone is much like the car we drive and the clothes we wear We all have different tastes and make our choices based on our own personal likes and criteria.

It is kinda funny how comically territorial words can seem at times w/out really even realizing. I figure all the tusslin of words and ideas is just par for the course. As long as we are all on the same team when it comes to Android on the whole, it's all good. I got your back if some Apple lunchbox phone toter besmirches your Androids good name.

The last I knew their were no forum specific rules on having to have a certain phone to leave ones opinion. If so please point it out to me in the tos and I will stop.

Are each of us limited to remain in areas of the forum that only discuss the devices we actually own?

Funny that the two of you ask this, because right in the Bionic forum:

http://forums.androidcentral.com/droid-bionic/116000-trolling-personal-attacks-bionic-forums.html

That said, we have a zero tolerance policy toward individuals who come into the forums just to tear it apart. If you think the Bionic sucks then try hanging out in your own forum instead. The Bionic forum is dedicated to Bionic enthusiasts - not Bionic haters. If your're stopping by to talk smack and turn people away from the forum you will be asked to leave.

We've also had mods come in here and warn off trolls in various Rez vs GNex threads. Like H.A.G.G. said, there's a definite imbalance of who's going where. I know I'm not going to go to the Gnex forum and stir up trouble, it's not worth it. I'd rather help where I can and learn what info is posted.

That's funny, we certainly have. Forums are funner when the olive branch of friendship is extended to all. We just get edgy around here when opinions walk a fine line w/ device trolling.

My post was't exactly directed at a specific person, it just seemed odd that so many people come to boast how good their phone is on a board about a different phone. Not having ever used tapatalk I had no idea that it showed you everything. Now I'm glad I didn't try it. Yes I follow a... Pattern for lack of a better word, and only come to the boards about the phone I have, because this is where I'll find the ins and outs of my phone. In some off hand way maybe something over on the, I need to choose carefully as so not to offend, let's just say some other board, could help me out but the real answers are going to be here. Coming form the Inc where we had our own independent forum the tone was a lot different the topics a lot different and for almost two years we only talked about our phones. Occasionally something new coming out, or some update, but mostly just the one phone. Maybe that experience tainted me some to how these big free for all forums worked. There was very little fighting there, and a stronger sense of community, maybe because we only talked about the one thing that we shared and left most of the other stuff at the url, so to speak. Maybe ac is too big for that.

TL;DR the whole thread, but it seems to have regressed.

I just want to come in and say that I sorta had the choice of a ReZound given to me by VZW or buying a gnex outright to replace my Charge.

I really think I made the right decision with the ReZ. I will know for sure when ICS and the kernel source is released...

I admit I do. The Rezound has been good to me, but holy slow batman on the ICS update! I'm due for an upgrade and the Nexus is something I'm putting serious consideration into. Am I nuts giving up my Rezound for a Nexus? I like the idea of a vanilla ICS; the "pure" experience. I don't know. Maybe I just have $200 burning a hole in my pocket.

NOPE

Thanks for straightening that out for me, Cares.

Let's all act like adults here and stay on topic please!

The only thing I think about a Nexus for is the ease of rooting and doing ROMs on my phone. Other than that, the Rezound has been a good phone, and I don't see any reason to replace other that the above mentioned item.

Can't lie the Nexus is a joy after I modded it

Lots of people still complaining about radio/battery drain. Rooters and stock users. I'm glad I got out of that phone when I could.

They always are! My DX was great after I rooted and ROM'd it.

Honestly that's what I've come to in terms of Android phones is this: disregard advertising campaigns. Look specifically at phone hardware and features. Find the phone that fits what you expect out of a device. Once you buy it, root the sucker and remove everything that VZW/ other carriers may install on it and then enjoy. If possible, get it as close as you can to a stock Android experience.

In terms of stock manufacturer UI's I'd take Sense over MotoBlur (which thinking back to my DX was not very different from a vanilla style launcher EXCEPT that it was a huge resource hog).

When it comes to buying an Android phone, don't buy the low end phones. They cause more problems than they're worth and they end up giving the Android line a bad rap despite the many many excellent phones available (Rezound, Nexus, RAZR etc etc). It's become a truth in the Android world: "you get what you pay for" (though sometimes you can get a whole lot of phone for $0.99 on black Friday....)

I have had both. Both are great for different reasons.

You know what? I guess I am the weird one, almost the only one, that could care less about "vanilla" android.

I get the speed boost, though it is negligible and will diminish more as processors get faster, of not having a layer on top of vanilla (Sense). I get that there will always be "purists" in the world (ie DH in baseball), all this I get.

If you break it down though, it all is just a layer over functionality. Be it vanilla or sense it is just a GUI, as long as all the functionality is there who cares?

Am I missing something here? I have played with a GNEX a lot and do not get it.

Having had both I still like my Galaxy Nexus more. I even returned my LTE One X because although the hardware was an upgrade it was not enough to put up with the way it was so locked down. Its been so easy to for the longest time to use AOKP, my new favorite ROM. Who knows how long I would have to wait to see if the bootloader will be cracked or unlocked. Or if s-off could be done. But to each there own.

I am not enamored with any of the "new" phones right now.

The One X not that big of an upgrade from my ReZound and it is locked too tight, the GNEX has its issues and there are plenty of them, and I just cannot get past that damn button on the SIII.

On the software side, I do like the directions that both TW and S4 are going.

It's not just you. A lot of people prefer Sense. I personally don't care for it and would prefer a "vanilla" ROM. What I've found out through tons of "research" is that most of the people that like Sense, like widgets. With the exception of Fancy Widget for my Sense-like clock, I don't use them at all. I'm not a big social media person either so widgets have very little to offer me. As such the draw of Sense diminishes in favor of longer battery life, and easier customization(custom themes etc).

The Galaxy Nexus comes out of the box as a "customize me" phone. Which would be most of the draw for most people that are phone aficionados. I personally would have picked one up if not for the "lateness" of the phone(and no official release date), and that it has poor radios. I've been through the Samsung experience on Verizon before and unless that's corrected, I'm never going back.

So I guess in the end it's a different strokes for different folks kinda thing.
