Does metal bumper (protect sides only, back is not protected) block signal reception?

No, it will not unless the signal from carrier is too weak.

No, it will not unless the signal from carrier is too weak.

In other words it may have a negative effect but its not noticeable without a weak signal.

Well I bought a metal case for my note 3 from eBay, however I couldn't use it as it did exactly as you said blocked the signal completely.

Anytime you place metal between a radio's antenna and the signal source (the cell site), you WILL BE impeding the efficiency of the radio. There is no way you can get around that. It is a law of physics and immutable.

And for that very reason, I salute Samsung's continued success with Plastic Cases.

Electronics/Radios/Microwave systems has been my area of expertise and I'm retired now and enjoying it a lot.... but the law of physics has not retired.

It reduces it slightly. But it is usually fine unless you are in a bad area
