Does the Evo use a Micro USB charger?

Shouldn't this all be standardized. I read a story about them deciding on a standard for phone chargers. Here is the article, although HTC is not mentioned.

Sorry, jam, you are incorrect. I have an Evo and it definitely uses the one in the picture I posted. It's the flatter, smaller USB connector...the micro.

My HTC Hero, however, uses the bigger, taller one...the mini.

No clue about the Pre.

Well that really sucks then, I have to buy all new chargers then :(... I thought it was the same as most other HTC phones, guess I read that wrong.

I don't want people to get confused so I just snapped a picture of the bottom of my Evo. The left port is the micro USB charging port. The right port is the HDMI.

Evo ports...

Yes that definitely looks like a Micro end... sorry for the confusion.

Thank you very much for the pic and clarifying this up for us!!

If you buy online, it's unlikely to break the bank...

Overnight I fully charge two phones and two Bluetooth headsets off of a single USB hub that has a 2A adapter. I use the short 1.5' cables from Monoprice. It's nice having less of a wire-mess with only 1 power supply and the shorter cables.

Prices at Monoprice.com (plus S&H and tax of course)

$15 for a 7 port USB hub with 2A AC Adapter
$1.16 Car cigarette lighter to USB adapter (BYO cable)
$.85 1.5ft Micro USB cable
$1.00 3ft Micro USB cable
$1.28 6ft Micro USB cable
$1.69 10ft Micro USB cable

Hopefully Monoprice will soon have the Micro-HDMI cable in. (Please note, it is a HDMI 1.4a MICRO Type D cable, not a HDMI 1.3a Mini Type C cable.)

The thing with Monoprice is to "over order". Shipping doesn't go up much when you add extra items, so order spare cables, HDMI cables, and so on, to squeeze the most out of the shipping costs.

You can even skip the USB hub and just charge off of your computer.

im confuse now, so does the charger the pre uses work on the Evo?

The Pre uses a standard Micro-USB 2.0 cable for power and data, so yes.

The only difference you'll see between Micro-USB chargers is the amount of power they put out. A 2A charger will charge the phone faster than a 1.5A or a 850mA charger will.

A lot of laptops have a single live USB jack that has power even when the laptop is off, specifically for charging things like cell phones off of the laptop battery. There are so many benefits from having generic chargers and cabling, that I hope to never be forced into proprietary again (apple caugh)

I use the Belkin Auto charger for iPhone. Just have to replace the usb cord, ordered a two pack or retractable micros off e-bay for 9 bucks

Yes I'm definitely going to order online, I work in IT and have been buying computer equipment for at least 15 years now so I know better than to buy retail!! I was browsing BB a couple weeks ago when I seen the 6' micro HDMI cable they had for sale and I almost had a heart attack... they wanted $80 for it... are you kidding me!!!

Thanks for the info!!

Got any idea if that USB hub has enough juice to charge the iPad?

Does anyone know the specs for the factory EVO charger? I know any micro USB should work, but what is the factory spec mA.

Can I use my heros mini usb car charger with a mini to micro usb adapter, or will the electricity be wrong

The charger that came with the Evo is actually a regular micro USB cable and a wall plug connector that attaches to the big end. So it can be used as a wall plug or to plug into a laptop.

It has the following written on it:

Model: TC U250
Input: 100-240V~200mA 50-60Hz
Output: 5V === 1A
