Does the S5 use the same SIM as the S2?

[AC Question]

After first downloading Smart Switch app to both old and new phone, (backing up data, contacts, etc., to both SIM card and SD, you are ready to transfer.

Must I first have a new SIM in the new phone; when to place the old SIM into new phone?; or, will the transfer work with no SIM in one of the phones?

I don't find the SIM issue with instructions for using Smart Switch. Thanks.

Hello, welcome to Android Central!

The S2 uses the Mini SIM card size. Whereas, the S5 uses the Micro SIM card size. You'll need to get it replaced. Most will offer a free SIM card, so check with the carrier on a replacement. You can cut it down to size (see online tutorials), but if you mess it up, you'll be stuck without a SIM card. I'd suggest getting a new one from the carrier.
