Does this make you want to hit the brakes on the Bionic?

Ill have to stop by a sprint store tomorrow. I forgot these hit the shelves. Anyone use a Droid 3 and a Photon? Any comparison thoughts? I got to play with a Droid 3 a few days after it came out. Seemed like a decent phone, but no time on the photon yet.

I definitely liked the look and feel of the Photon. The Droid 3 of course has the newest Blur which is actually pretty nice. Both devices are very nice and speedy.

I have to say, the Droid 3 screen scared me. As soon as I loaded the browser the text was almost unreadable, as in the pixels were just a mess. but when you enlarge the text or zoom in, the pixelation went away. Just kind of a shame.

As for the X2 I didn't really notice anything. i could certainly see the dreaded pentile pixelation but I had to be looking for it. if you're not focusing on the pentile you barely saw it. and from testing videos, I enjoyed the Droid X2's pentile qHD display the most over Samsungs SAMOLED screen (too dark and over saturated) LGs and HTCs were ghosting a lot. So it has its pros and cons. Personally, I'd like to see more of these rumored 720p displays. but I can sacrifice the screen for now.

At any rate Bionic is top of my list. followed closely by the Vigor and trailing is the Prime but only because there isn't much concrete evidence on the subsequent devices.

Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't Gingerbread come out in December '10? And we didn't start seeing OTA updates to Gingerbread until like March and new phones are only now 100%shipping with GB. That's about 8 months give or take. So if ICS does come out in October besides the Nexus Prime devices won't start showing with it until 2012. And there is no way I am keeping my BlackBerry for one of those.

Ice Cream Sandwich doesnt make me hit the brakes on the Bionic...but news of the LG Revolution 2 does...lol

I may be in the wait til next year boat again.

I don't know much, so please pardon, but I thought ICS was an operating system that will work on phone or tablet without modifications by developers, so anybody know what advantage this is to smartphone users? Seems more geared toward developers to than end users. What will smartphone users get from ICS that would suggest we wait for it?

Look and feel will be the first things you notice. Also in this case, a more optimized OS will lead to a faster, more efficient running phone. Think the difference between Windows XP and Win 7, if you want a very basic analogy.

Additionally, the happier the app developers are, the happier YOU will be!

As far as ICS specific hardware, ICS does not require the use of the "back", "menu" etc. buttons along the bottom of the screen, meaning the screen can expand out into this area for an increase in screen size without an increase in phone size. But this feature obviously will only be available for those phones that are shipped, and designed for ICS. Thus the desire to wait.

Personally I like hardware buttons, and capacitive buttons are a stretch for me. I don't think that the jump to on screen buttons will be a very good one for me :p. But there was also some GPU acceleration in there too wasn't there? I.e. optimized OS.

After reading the RootzWiki article on ICS, I don't feel the need to wait for it. Perhaps the Nexus S does get it in October. But new devices would then get it in Nov at the earliest. For a VZ flagship device, you're looking at dual core + LTE + ICS + HD res screen... quite an integration challenge. I would be shocked if anything like that could release before late Nov / early Dec timeframe. Or as VZ would call it, a "fall" release ;)

We won't see ICS on any devices (out of the box) until at least summer 2012. Except the Nexus of course.

Google needs to mandate that carriers and mfgrs update phones to at least the next OS version after what the device came with. That would light a fire under the asses of lazy firms.

Or, all mfgrs can have their flagship "iPhone" to worry about updating and upgrading on some regular cycle.

Carriers should offer unlocked, stock devices or $50 more.

Did I miss something? I want to know why people think the Bionic WON'T get the ICS update?!?!

Ics isn't compatible with pentile :(

I'm going to sound like a complete n00b but I don't care lol. What is Pentile? Blackberry storm is my 1st smartphone so somethings I'm not to familiar with.

Wow, that was so hilarious. And clever. I mean, no one has ever made any jokes about pentile screens before. How did you develop such razor sharp wit?

Pentile is the screen technology that Motorola has been using on their newer smartphones. Some people hate it, some people love it and some don't mind either way, but the ones who hate it are usually the loudest about it. If you are considering getting the Bionic you should probably check out a screen with pentile tecchnology to see if its something that bothers you. You can look at the Droid X2, the Droid 3, the Atrix or the Photon as they all use pentile screens.

That's funny. I just died laughing. Any new higher end smartphone should be compatible with ICS, the hardware it was built on is basically what we're using now.

What does a Pentile screen have anything to do with software? Only way would be if ICS cannot be upgrade/updated to if there was some crazy glitch with GB.

It's perfectly compatible. A lot of people say "ics" when they look at the Pentile screen. :)

Well I guess it isn't compatible with the Nexus S then because that is a pentile screen. A pentile screen has nothing to do with being able to be upgraded to ICS.

Oh My! I have been doing lots of research on the SGII and seeing its specs and accessories, I feel the SGII may have me slamming on the brakes pretty hard.

That WebbTop will only make my favorite laptop gather dust and I do not want that.
The extended battery Sammy has that snaps on without removing the OE battery is pretty slick.
The desktop docks and such shows Sammy has been thinking.

Oh my! I may get to skip the crow dinner.
