Doesn't stay paired after losing BT

I have my watch connected to my LG phone via BT. If I take a walk and leave the phone at home the watch switches to LTE and connects remotely to the phone as it should. When I get back in range of the phone the watch will say 'standalone-verizon wireless' but never reconnects to BT. If I look at the BT list on the phone it is listed with my other paired devices like my car and doesn't show connected. After a little while if I check again the watch is listed as an available device and I have to pair it again and then reconnect the gear app.
Does anyone have any idea why its not reconnecting and actually becomes unpaired? My camera with BT never becomes unpaired and I barely use its BT and the car never needs to be repaired so I'm assuming its a watch issue. I have done a reset on the watch and same issue.
