Droid 2.1 question?!

I personally think its a crock of **** that we havnt gotten any word or any love from them yet with our Droids.

Their bread an butter phone - The Nexus Ones got multitouch and all sorts of goodies in their recent update yet, we get left in the dark with no acknowledgment about our update. 2.0.1 was terrible in my opinion seing as how it fubared my phones speeds both with apps and more particularly - the browser speeds.

In all honesty, now that the Nexus ones out, I see the Droid getting a lack of attention from them. Sad seing as how much we paid for the damn device... Quite bull**** really.

Who is their and them? Google? Cause Google doesn't give us Droid updates, Verizon and Motorola do. Chill out and be angry at the right people.

When the update is ready I'm sure Verizon will announce it and release soon after no need to get all worked up over it. The Droid is running better now then any Black Berry I owned in the past so need for an update isn't that high. I'm surprised by all the people that are complaining like the update is ready and Verizon isn't releasing just to upset their customers. If the wait is that bad just root and update yourself it's not that hard even a cavemen can do it.

After seeing some of the stuff included in 2.1 and knowing that multitouch will likely be on the way too, I can't blame people for being impatient and wanting the official update soon... Heck, I'm pretty much in that camp as well... ;)

That being said, though, I think that if I were given a choice between having a non-optimized 2.1 today and an optimized 2.1 a month or so from now I'd be inclined to wait. I want my Droid to run as fast as it can possibly go, after all. Many of the updated apps in 2.1 are available for download and installation now for those that want them anyway, right?

what i'm wondering is if the people that released nexus one 2.1 apps ported for the droid are planning on doing the same thing with 2.1-update1, now that their is a new set of apps (maps, gallery, browser,...) that have the pinch-to-zoom feature?

I'd be more patient in waiting for the official 2.1 & FLASH to hit the droid. ANYONE ELSE AGREE?

do you think the official 2.1 & flash for the droid will receive a 2.1-UPDATE1 & FLASH? that would explain the time delay.

That would be cool... not holding my breath here... I'm just happy that the droid is still pretty much top dog out there.. nexus is cool but I like my hard keyboard and big red too much..

Already done for some of them. Can't post links but if you head over to alldroid you'll find them.

Also at the end of the video the guy says he guesses the browser will be ported next. Interesting.

If this update does not bring pinch zoom. I am selling my Droid and going Nexus this spring.:p

Saddly A.C (Android Central) already asked moto about pinch to zoom.

This was their response: "While designing DROID, and all Motorola mobile devices, Motorola work very closely with carriers and partners to deliver differentiated consumer experiences, depending on the region, carrier preferences and consumer needs. DROID features double tap zoom, a new way to zoom in on content. For example, when viewing web pages, simply tap twice on the content you want to view and DROID automatically zooms in and fits the content to the width of the display. You can also zoom in and out with on screen zoom controls."

Let me translate this to something we can all understand very easily; NO PINCH ZOOM.

Droid=last moto device in my house ever.

I have noticed the advantages of going Google over Motorola.
Google releases updates when and how they want.
VZW (Droid)
Google releases the software, Motorola makes its changes, changes get sent to VZW, VZW tests, VZW sends it back (this happens a couple of times), then when its ready VZW holds the update till they see fit to release it.

I think I will take the first.

Completely agree.
I though the "Bucket of does" was gonna be alpha dog, it's more like a neutered pitbull.

The crappy part is, its a fantastic phone.............right now.

Its the only android device (on VZW) that has a physical keyboard (minus the devour, but really? are you going to rush out and buy that? No, didnt think so)

In my opinion, HTC makes THE best smartphones on the market, and I cannot believe I am saying this, but, if Droid doesn't get some updates soon, I might jump ship with WINMO7 hits with a shiny piece of sense UI love.

Its super anoying when you know that the better update is out there and probably ready.. yet the use it as a marketing tool.. not fair to the people that have invested their money already.. but you can only learn from things and make better choices next time.

Funny part is that I have been sending Motorola tweets regarding the 2.1 update and getting pinch zoom. Somehow my tweets get ignored but every single "When is 2.1 dropping" tweet gets a response "We are sad to say we have no news to report at the moment. More info will come closer to release date."

Come on, answer my question. I refuse to use HTC but I will own my first in the next 90 days.

Guess you learn the hard way. I dropped 200.00 on the Droid. It will be on craigs list soon.

Lets just wait until March 31st, the end of Q1, they made A TON of promises for Q1 of this year. So they haven't betrayed us yet! 2 months my friend, 2 months, then you can be a pissed as I will be lol

I like pinch zooming as much as anybody, but is it really that important that people are willing to sell their droids? Personally I like it so I use Dolphin, but I don't think it's a deal breaker. So you double tap to zoom. Is it as cool? Maybe not, but it works.
yes I was alittle bummed when the N1 came out and I am still very impressed by it, but pinch to zoom is certainly not what puts it over the top.
5 home screens- So much more important. I tried the port that's been posted but it was too buggy. But that's what I feel is sooo much more useful. Plus, the new flyout animations are beautiful.
I'm reasonably sure we're going to see Droid with the same OS as the N1, it just doesn't make sense that Moto wouldn't push it on VZW's flagship phone.
But it's pretty unlikely that I'm going to consider selling my Droid and switching to WinMo so I can pinch and zoom. On the other hand, if people are going to switch the N1, that's their choice, but making such a HUGE deal of it just seems a little overkill.

The frustration doesn't really come from the whole lacking pinch zoom. We have Dolphin (works better than the Milestone browser), the 2.1 pinch zoom gallery and the ported pinch zoom maps. It all really boils down to VZW and Motorola holding back. The Droid pulled hundreds of thousands away from other phones (Blackberry, Palm, iPhone). Yet even though the competition T-Mo released the Nexus with a better chip and OS, Motorola and VZW have not done their part to keep people happy. The whole Q1 update timeframe is lame. They know when it will drop, its all part of their game plan. Yet they will choose to release it when the n1 comes. They did it with the 9530 (waited till the 9550 dropped) and the 5.0 update.

I will not be sell the phone cause of the features its lacking, I will be selling it do to the marketing schemes that VZW plays. I want to get the updates as soon as they are ready. I refuse to be held back till they feel they should release it.

Let me give you an example. Your wife is cooking dinner, you can smell the awesome meal. You have been anticipating Dinner cause your lunch was weak. Yet everytime you ask if its ready she says "not yet". You can see that your plate is there on the counter, its getting cold. You ask a few more times and get the same answer. You look out the window and notice your neighbor is having an awesome dinner. He notices you looking and says "hey come over I have a nice hot plate for you". Do you stay and wait till she wants to feed you? or Do you grab your coat and join the dude next door having a fresh hot meal?
