DROID BIONIC Jelly Bean Update

I very well may update the HoB one last time and switch is so any stragglers who were waiting to upgrade to JB can switch. Just my opinion. Take it as you will.

I think you just want to do one last update so you can say "THIS one goes to ELEVEN!!!". ;-)

Lol no. I created my own protect and restore root functions though. Just in case we ever get another update (unlikely) I don't want anyone losing root. So even if you're on 22 protect it both with my new hob protect and voodoo... Just to be safe. I'll try to release it tomorrow.

64 bit issues. Switch to a 32 bit linux distro or figure out how to run 32 bit apps in your 64 bit linux install.

I got farther than zw, but no dice for me either. Ran on stock 32bit Ubuntu lived, followed all directions. Binaries run fine but the script complains about the "read -n 1" lines having an invalid parameter or something, so its not doing what its suppose to at that step... and it doesn't pause like it looks like its supposed to at those points.

Nevermind, got past that.. silly me, I was invoking run.sh with sh instead of bash... anyway, exploit still doesn't work. don't get any errors, it runs happily then after rebooting, no root. :(

Glad you got yours working Zw

Sorry man, keep trying. BTW even time I boot up my phone, I am asked to choose between Home Launcher and Adw, I check always every time but it still happens. Have cleared data on both and done factory reset, is anyone else running into this*or know how to fix it?

I want you to open an adb shell from the command prompt and give me the results of this command:

ls -al /system/usr/we-need-root

I must say I'm dumb as rocks and I finally got to this... or I think I did. (thanks youtube and xda)

this is what it says...
-rwsr-sr-x root root 22364 2013-04-14 17:07 su-backup

I think that's what I was supposed to do... ?

Then you've got the ability to restore root. Follow the xda link that's been posted a couple times in this thread.

Ok I downloaded and installed the the JB update last Monday from the file Sam posted. No issues whatsoever until say last Thursday when I started some serious lag & lockups. Decided to do a factory reset on Saturday. That went fine & things working as smooth as ever with the exception that I periodically am seeing somekind of weird error message related to the wifi connection. The wifi is working fine. Any solution to getting the message to go away? I did try forgetting the connection and reconnecting several times to no avail.

I updated using the same file last Monday... had no lag, but did have the weird wifi error. I also did an FDR on Saturday, and haven't had the issue again since.

Help... I am without my phone... I just allowed this latest update to install on my Bionic and now get the following error message: "unfortunately, the process com.android.phone has stopped".. I have no idea what that means.. Please understand my smartphone has a dumb owner... what do I do? I verified it was this update by checking the "build" number ..Thanks.... Lori

Back up your data/apps and do a factory reset.

that's what i was afraid of... that's the last thing I wanted to do... guess i am without a phone today.. at work and cannot do that...

thanks... Lori

Sadly I concur. You can TRY booting to recovery and wiping the cache first and see how that goes but ultimately an FDR is what's needed.

It's weird I didn't get the error message until after I did the factory reset. Can you reflash the same build? If so, should I? Do another factory reset? Both?

Can I back up my bionic with ROM manager obviously since I lost root from the whole bootstrap (gate) issue I am hesitant since I got root back to attempt any type of backup. Or is there another way to back up and restore my system.

God no. Rom Manager installs Bootstrap recovery which will give you those stupid encryption errors again and fry your install. The only way to really back up your stuff is to install safestrap and take a backup of your stock slot and then you can restore it to a safe slot. Then you can screw around in safestrap all you want and if you break your safe slot no big deal...the stock slot stays pristine.

Thanks Samuri figured I would ask before FUBAR'ING my bionic again. One other ? I have never used safe strap if I need to FXZ or basically use the HoB for anything do I have to uninstall SS.

The newer versions you can keep the app installed but it's safer (ha ha) to use the uninstall recovery feature inside safestrap if you need to flash anything. The FXZ and/or HoB will likely deal with it anyway but as a matter of best practice it's best to clean it up first.
