DROID BIONIC Jelly Bean Update

I ignored the RAZR M comment for a reason. You can't compare phones on different architectures. It's like comparing the Bionic JB build to an S3. While the moto phones may share Blur, nothing else is going to be the same. That's why I focused on answering from an OMAP4 perspective as they are all similar hardware. The builds are much closer there, but, still quite different. Even though they all came from the same engineering build.

Ha. That. This is actually precisely what I was asking.

Fortunately I was able to interpret these feelings correctly: loss of essence.

I think this thread has become more interesting and informative after the JB update slowed.

My Hyperion replacement battery arrived yesterday, and so far today it's lasted a good 6-hours longer than my old OEM extended battery. Thank you, Amazon for your always-timely deliveries! The GSam app is unsure why it's stayed at 1% for a few hours now! lol Yes, the phone is a bit more chubby, but that is a very minor drawback. This is awesome!

Keep seeing articles todayabout this Game Center type deal VZW wants to possibly shoehorn in on their devices. Is that the Isis(yeah I never figured that out) thing that was the sticking point on one of the earlier Bionic builds?

Ok, but that's still not ISIS...ISIS was the competitor to Google Wallet that VZW (and a consortium of others) is attempting and as such why VZW refused to allow Google Wallet on devices on their network.

(Not a gamer, so that Portal thing has gone unnoticed here.)

Oh now kinda I remember...I tend to pass over any article that has Google Wallet in the byline :p

LOL. That article is hilarious. I have a pretty good idea that we're looking at soak emails by the end of April with a roll out sometime in early May. MAYBE even earlier but the safe bet is the timeline I gave.

How does the saying go? April showers brings May Soak tests? Hmm, I swear it rhymed...

They really do have their finger on the pulse...

I don't fault them, there is a lot of news out there that they aren't expected to keep up with. And they usually do a heck of a job getting a good mix of stuff posted. I just had to chuckle when they used another (competing perhaps) website when they could have turned to their own forums.

Yep, that's what I was edging towards. For a while we were one of the most active threads. I thought someone would take notice and post a blurb about it and not use another website. I'd start with my own forums to find stories before going to other sites but that's just me.

I actually figured that the forums these news sites set up were to help them crowd source the news. That was big enough story that I am surprised it took them nearly a week to catch on.

I'm pretty sure they used to have a "tip us" button.

Ok, please tell me there's some way to prevent JB from being updated to the Bionic. Just got off the phone with Motorola's tech support to ask about the wifi signal issue on my fiance's Razr and this seems to be an issue with all phones going to JB. I didn't go into details with him because it'd be over my head, but basically he said it's a new security protocol that is in JB that is not compatible with older routers. Mine is only 2-3 years old, so we're not talking about a very long lifespan, and the only option is to replace the router. Sure, I could do that at home, but most of my wifi conntivity is away from the house since I travel for work. Doubt I'm going to convince all these businesses they need to upgrade their routers, and I am now curious how long it takes for it to become a well known issue and that's the fix. Then longer still for businesses and such to actually DO the upgrades when people complain they can't connect.

Strike two against JB for me (the other being I'm not interested in Google Now and Swype getting fubared on the Razr too).

There is an easy way to kill the update. Just change your properties file and set the version to something other than 6.7.246. Then when the phone does the update check it won't match and no update will be downloaded. What you're saying about the WiFi matches with what I've been seeing with the RAZR since 98.72.8 was accidentally pushed. Some people couldn't connect at all. Others had no problem. I suspected something like a router incompatibility as did others. That MASSIVELY sucks.
