DROID BIONIC Jelly Bean Update

Horribly bad assumption you're making there. And not necessarily true at all. You need to understand the BS process. Moto creates a build, completes about 2 weeks of in house testing. They ship it off to VZW. They do whatever joke of a test they do. On the FIRST failure, they fail the build. The do NOT continue testing it. Hence why it takes SO ridiculously long and why Moto bashes their head against a wall. It took 11 builds for VZW to accept ICS....and they didn't do so willingly.
Been involved with an organization that did that type of error check, it drove people crazy trying to get their paperwork done!

It'd certainly piss me off. Keep testing it, give me a list. Otherwise it's a waste of time for everyone.

If you think about it at all logically it doesn't take the approver any longer in the long run it is just all done at one time and the corrections can be made in the next correction!

They appear to disagree. sigh. They feel since it's going to have to be retested anyway, why bother wasting THEIR time on doing any further testing on a build they've failed.

What a terrible model and obviously highlights that the Moto-vzw relationship is not a "partnership" as it would or should be to get this done timely. How can you possibly turn over something for testing not knowing what the customer's expectations are?

When I developed a large system for the Defense Department, they presented us with a detailed document of what security and other functionality needed to be in place. Together, we developed a Test Plan to address all those (and other) issues. Moreover, the test itself was done "together" at their test facility where we uncovered issues...fixed them...and within 1 week had signoff from the Pentagon that we were certified good to go!

C'mon vzw...get together with your device "partners"!

There is some signs that things are beginning to change. Slowly. But there's signs of life that perhaps VZW is getting the message that slow updates are killing everyone in the ecosystem. What's going to kick them in the kahunas on this issue is the fact that the slow updates are starting to become costly in terms of security problems for their customers. That, I think, is going to be the catalyst to drive faster updates going forward.

You mean they don't communicate a set of parameters prior to the builds being created. It doesn't sound like it would make sense for either party not to communicate there needs. They are not competitors. But the more I learn , the more it seems like common sense is not considered

Fortunately I was able to interpret these feelings correctly: loss of essence.

We'll see. I just got some new information on potential ACTUAL specs for the thing (no, I can't post them, sorry) and if they're accurate, it could be a nice little (cough cough) phone. However, I still maintain that marketing is going to play a big role in how successful it is. May can't get here fast enough...

Regardless of whether it's coming out in the summer, or coming out in the fall, are you expecting something to be shown I'm May? I'd live with the bionic if they showed something in May that looks awesome, but won't be out until October.

A little regression testing never hurt anyone. :(

LMAO. No, there's not a lot of useful communication. Moto gives them their intent to update a phone, they say great, give us a build and then the back and forth starts. It's absolute lunacy.

I have NO clue what they're going to show in May. I have what I think they'll show and if I'm right I'm going to be massively disappointed. A bunch of specs on a powerpoint slide ain't gonna cut it, but, I suspect that's what we'll be shown. I doubt we'll actually SEE anything demo'd. Also, as I mentioned before, Ghost is another phone in the works and that's likely to be out this summer with 4.2.2. In fact, you can bet ANY phone shipped this summer will have 4.2.2. KLP won't make it to a phone until October at the earliest IMO. Maybe I'll be horribly wrong with my predictions. That'd be nice.

I hear ya man. It's certainly not the process I'd use.

(No KLP til October at earliest is) All the more reason why I'm even more anxious that we get JB on Bionic, as it would give Bionic another year of life (if the hw device holds up), as you've advised (and I agree) it would not be wise to buy new device that "promised" but rather get one that was "delivered with" the new OS (which sounds like it might be early '14)

Off topic, I just have to say I love this SIG. I don't remember that line if it came from the movie, but it seems to fit perfectly at the end of every post I've seen from you. :-)

Ah, I thought Ghost was the X-Phone. It would be nice if your predictions are wrong, but so far you haven't been far off...

I wonder if KLP will debut on a Nexus Tablet this summer then? Man, I really disappointed in not getting a new phone. Maybe it's a gift from God to help me save money...

I figured it was, it's just been a really long time since I've watched it. I really should watch it again.

I'd forgotten just how insane he was.

No, Ghost is another phone entirely. I've never seen any evidence when I had access to the test server that an X phone existed. However, one of my sources tells me it does. My money is on KLP showing up on the Nexus 5 at the end of October or sometime in November. And not before then. I give us an almost zero chance of seeing KLP this summer. Believe me, no one wants me to be wrong more than I do. But my gut instinct tells me that all phones and tablets released this summer will be JB and upgradable to KLP. I don't want something that's upgradable. I want a phone that ships with KLP. Hence, either I have to suck it and get a phone with JB or I have to resign myself to waiting until the end of the year. It COULD be worth waiting.......... :)

I've pretty much decided I'm waiting for KLP. I don't want to go through sitting and waiting for the update that will make the phone again. I'd hope it won't ever be as bad as we got it again, but I'd rather not take that chance.

I share the sentiment in a big way. One thing that can mitigate that problem....GET AN UNLOCKABLE PHONE. I can't stress enough that my next phone is GOING to be unlockable. As such we should have a development community behind it where you can flash kernels and custom roms to the phone. If so, you won't have to wait long for a rom of the new version. NOT being at the mercy of the MFG and the carrier....FTW.
