There is an easy way to kill the update. Just change your properties file and set the version to something other than 6.7.246. Then when the phone does the update check it won't match and no update will be downloaded. What you're saying about the WiFi matches with what I've been seeing with the RAZR since 98.72.8 was accidentally pushed. Some people couldn't connect at all. Others had no problem. I suspected something like a router incompatibility as did others. That MASSIVELY sucks.

If the wifi connection has been working under ICS(which I believe it generally has) why would they make a major change that screws with it? Did the razr have the same problem under ICS?

Nope. This was new for JB. And as he said, they updated the security protocols which are incompatible with older routers. It makes a ton of sense given what I've seen from the RAZR crowd. Those that had problems with 98.72.8 were waiting for the final release to see if it fixed it. 98.72.16....did not fix anything. Now we know why.

Well we seemed to have a cleaner release of ICS than did the razr, we can hope the same holds true for Jelly Bean because there aren't likely to be any fixes after the fact!

Easiest way is with something that has a properties editor built in. Rom Toolbox Pro for example. Under performance, it has a build.prop editor. Look for ro.build.version.full. Change it and it should sufficiently break the update checker for you.

P.S. You DO need to be rooted to change the build.properties file.

Thanks Tom, it is much faster there. Also thanks for the list of older routers that have problems with JB. Fortunately I upgraded to a Netgear WNDR 4500 a while ago and it works great. Bionic cannot use the 5 Ghz band though. Xoom and Razr M do.

Ok, please tell me there's some way to prevent JB from being updated to the Bionic. Just got off the phone with Motorola's tech support to ask about the wifi signal issue on my fiance's Razr and this seems to be an issue with all phones going to JB. I didn't go into details with him because it'd be over my head, but basically he said it's a new security protocol that is in JB that is not compatible with older routers. Mine is only 2-3 years old, so we're not talking about a very long lifespan, and the only option is to replace the router. Sure, I could do that at home, but most of my wifi conntivity is away from the house since I travel for work. Doubt I'm going to convince all these businesses they need to upgrade their routers, and I am now curious how long it takes for it to become a well known issue and that's the fix. Then longer still for businesses and such to actually DO the upgrades when people complain they can't connect.

Strike two against JB for me (the other being I'm not interested in Google Now and Swype getting fubared on the Razr too).

I'm curious as to what they were referring to. WiFi is pretty standardized...are they referring to something like encryption? So it doesn't support WEP or something? 802.11a/b/g/n are what they are...I would assume a WiFi radio that supports the frequency would work as long as it supports the encryption protocol (if one is being used).

For what it's worth, my wife's Droid 4 got the OTA JB update two days ago. She loves it and Wi-Fi is working flawlessly. Our FIOS router dates to December 2009.

I have FoxFi installed, but almost never need to use it. My brother has never used it, but I asked him to see if would work on his Razr Maxx after the JB OTA. Sure enough, it's giving that blocked message many have reported on.

All it will take to pick up again will be a Build 23 (or is it 24 now?) status update from Sam. Sounds like the next milestone is submission to Verizon.
