DROID BIONIC Jelly Bean Update

With using voodoo to keep root after update, do we just save root with the app, or do we have to save root and unroot before update?

This is a good question and I am also curious of this.

You must protect root yes. Temp uprooting should not be necessary but it's up to you.

I might tempt unroot just to update then use Voodoo to restore root after update, just to make sure things go smoothly.

So just to clarify is the official update rolling out today or just the soak test? And am I better off doing the factory reset before or after the update?

Sorry for the double post, update is installing, it is build 22. Will post on root after it is done.

Neat. Let us know it goes. You didn't happen to capture the update did you?

Soak but as usual some non soak testers will get it too.

The update is being sent to me as we speak. So no one else needs to pull it and send it to me. Thanks!

The security has definitely been updated on the build. It went from 04 in ICS to 07 in JB. You will NOT be able to downgrade to ICS once you take this build.

JB is downloading as I type 91%,92%, now 93%........
Battery is getting hot, connected power supply
Now phone is verifying update.....
Version 98.72.22 is ready to install.
Rebooting.....
Loading now (New android Icon)
Looking like loading will take more than a few minutes.
Phone still warn to the touch, but not as hot as before.
This post will continue later, gotta get some coffee!

I received the update this morning. I've been up and running for about 45 minutes. So far everything is working great. I have only noticed improvements and have not encountered any problems yet. If I do I will update this post.

Update:

After playing with this build now for several hours it appears VERY stable. The only question now is battery performance. We'll see how that does over the next few days.

For anyone sitting on the fence I would take the upgrade. With that being said I have no interest in rooting so the new security does not effect me. Those days for me are over. Back in the OG days I was a big supporter of rooting and was a nightly tester. However, with the Bionic I never saw the need to root with a LOCKED bootloader. Other than getting rid of crapware there isn't much else you can do with root with a locked bootloader (kernels matter!), IMHO.

Enjoy JB everyone!
