DROID BIONIC Jelly Bean Update

FYI, don't take this as gospel, but, apparently there MIGHT (key word MIGHT) be a new root exploit for the bionic coming in a few days.

Will you still jump ship with a new phone if this comes out? I mean, the RAZR HD is a nice piece of hardware...

Anybody else having scrolling issues with Google Now after you've done a google search? It's like there's a dead space on the screen or half the time it just doesn't register my thumb swipes to scroll up and down. It's really annoying. It kind of reminds me of the hacked version that was out for ICS.

Thanks for the input all. For what it is worth, I'm unrooted running ICS stock, now using the old Bionic as a second device pretty much for Webtop on lapdock, HDMI netflix, games, blah blah. More interested in retaining the ability to root than rooting, really, for futureproofing to a Key Lime Pie or upgraded webtop rom. Based on the multiple gurus here busting root despite all the precautions, and the nice Samuri rumors on this page of a pending JB root, my game plan is to turn off my Bionic for a while, and see how this all pans out. Mr. Samuri I hope you stick around with the device long enough for a new root exploit.

I would be interested in your experiences whether doing a cache wipe, vs. a factory reset after install has much effect. A factory reset on the old ICS update really helped, but would hate to have to redo the data and reinstall apps again.

I have no intention of doing an FDR right now since I can't restore my apps due to lack of root.

Been a lurker for awhile. Just wanted to say thanks for all the work Sam, I even followed you guys from the other "place". Any-who just for what's it worth, if anyone downloaded the dreaded beats audio app and tried to install, good luck with the jb update. I've spent hours racking my brain on the files it changed and inserted. Easiest option is to FXZ.

I guess I missed it. Dang that sucks man.

Fortunately I was able to interpret these feelings correctly: loss of essence.

Yes, but, there MAY be another root exploit coming. I'm not holding my breath on it working. And someone has offered to send me a RAZR HD. I will root it, unlock it, install TWRP, and never lose root again.

I have not rooted, did not receive the soak email, and have not received the Jelly Bean update OTA. I know its a phased roll out but how long should this take?
Thanks

Hmm...maybe I missed something that should be obvious, but while it is nice to see what Google Play Music has up on my car stereo, I cannot use Pandora. It THINKS it is playing, but nothing is coming through the speakers. I did a little research, but nothing that hard pinned down the root cause. Anyone else have this issue at all or some insight into the cause?

Soak hasn't ended afaik. So, figure 4-5 days once it ends. I'm guessing that'll end tomorrow some time and the general push will begin.

Any updates on the search for a JB root exploit yet? I know there are many who are looking but wasn't sure if there was anything promising in the works.

I did the update on my wife's Bionic and lost root. The only difference between what I did on mine and what I did on hers was that I did not start with a fresh FXZ with hers, otherwise I did it all the same (stock with root, protect root with Voodoo, update SuperUser and su binaries, update through stock recovery, restore with Voodoo, but root is lost). Tried what I knew and thought a FR might correct it but to no avail. :(

My wife's Bionic I wonder if root can be restored and I just don't know how. Superuser can't obtain root, but Voodoo says it's rootable. Of the five boxes Voodoo displays all but one, the middle one indicating it can't obtain root, is checked. So, does someone know if it can be accessed and how? If so, can you give me directions and/or steps on how to do it?

Thank you. :)

I haven't had an issue using the headphone jack. I do use a prior version of Pandora because i don't like the new Facebook look, so my results may not be typical.

Hi All,

Back again.. I am trying to update my bionic. I had the code 7 error so I fxz'd it and did a full fdr. I selected root from HoB and when I have installed Superuser it wont let me update the binary. When I try to update the binary it gets all the way through until gaining root access then I get a ....fail...message. Everything needing root seems to have it I just cant update the binary. Any ideas????

Steve

Are you connecting through bluetooth? If so is the bluetooth option enabled under Pandora's settings?

Anyway, I had absolutely no problems updating or with anything so far. This is a fantastic update, phone feels brand new. Only thing I noticed was that scrolling in some things like the contact list and new Play store isn't very smooth but that's me nitpicking.
