Anyone using the Koush su have success keeping root through OTA Rootkeeper in this update? (one of several things still keeping me from allowing the update)

I'll check, if and when i do the update, and report on here.

BTW, the GSM is available even under ICS, through a fone kb command (that doesn't live through reboot, tho), so i c no reason for it to be gone in JB.

Appear to have root, but can't rename Superuser.APK to SU.APK to make the VZW app happy. Otherwise appear to still have root. Can't think of a safe way to test it. Titanium Backup Root makes backups. :)

I'm missing something here, not yet heard of the su v superuser naming issue.

Hi everyone, I've been following this thread for a few months now, and first of all I want to say thank you to everyone (obviously, especially Sam) for all the info and advice that I've seen in here. Now for my question, while I did some experimenting with rooting my OG Droid, I've been stock with my Bionic (didn't even install any of the leaks for ICS). Is there ANY reason to wait for the OTA update or will it be exactly the same as installing the file that Sam posted? Thanks again!

Has anyone received this update OTA yet? I know a couple of unrooted users that are itching to get their fingertips on this.

our other bionic got ota yesterday (mine's still wearing a condom)

for comparison purposes, we bought ours early Nov 2011

So far, battery life is somewhat worse than ICS (probably 20% faster drain on OEM extended battery). Likely due to settling in of the OS and Google Now running. Still snappier response than ICS.

Only issue thus far is I had to reboot this morning because phone locked up when using Swype keyboard. Back to using standard keyboard, which also seems more responsive.

Did fxz 246 option save data, re-root with razrs edge protected root su, all that jazz. Went to instal error 7 again something about web top. ?? :(

Let me guess, when you install the HoB you told it to skip webtop? LMAO. Look in your 246_FXZ dir for vendor.img.disabled, rename it to vendor.img, and then on the utility menu use the repair webtop option. No need to re-root. Or skip all that and just do moto-fastboot flash webtop vendor.img.disabled if you're lazy and know command line stuff.

Actually, I must admit I was under that misinterpretation as well. I thought your link was just for those who have rooted and/or have followed your HoB lead/support. Didn't realize a stock, never-been-rooted Bionic could use it same as (instead of waiting for) vzw/OTA.

It's been like this since day 1 with updates. I don't know why people have this misunderstanding but it's persisted since day 1. And no matter how many times we tell people you do NOT have to be rooted to take an update zip in stock recovery, the assumptions continue. It's like the whole "geography game" when updates start rolling out. "OMG I'm in California and I got the update! OMGZ PONIES something's wrong cause *I'm ALSO* in California, and I DIDN'T get the update. Should I fxz??!" These perceptions that people have never die no matter how many times we try to correct them.

Interesting, I'm having much better battery life, but I'm on a clean install.

Hi all,

Getting ready to do the update my rooted bionic but getting the dreaded code 7. I guess my next step will be to run the fxz then reroot. I am wanting to do a complete wipe of my phone and want to reinstall only some things as well as reformatting my sd card so its all fresh. Would I be best to do this before I update or after?

A special thank you to Sami for all his guidance also.

Mine is worse. It's better than yesterday, but still not as good as before ota. I'll probably wipe everything in the next few days, just because. I try to do it on my computer every year too, so might as well do it on my phone. That usually makes things run smoother anyways.

my battery drain seems about the same, but It's only been a day and I haven't even used a full charge yet, so I'll need more time to really evaluate that

My battery life is worse, as well...but then again, I'm comparing it to a ROM, so I figured it was going to be worse before I even installed JB.

My battery life has been excellent since getting jb. I have an extended battery and 6 hours in with moderate use.. Also Pandora for about an hour straight and still got 80% juice.
