Droid Bionic now the Bionic Targa?

I just got a call from Verizon because I have three lines eligible for upgrade. When I mentioned waiting for the Bionic the representative told me they were now calling it the Bionic Targa. She also mentioned that some features were dropped. I'm taking everything she said with a grain of salt 1.) because she's just a customer sales representative in a call center and 2.) because she may have been trying to persuade me to buy any other phone right away to get me locked into another contract.

Has anyone else heard a similar rumor?

The mailing list page has the name Bionic, no Targa.

The leaked photos show a sticker with Targa alone, no Bionic.

My conclusion:

Targa is the codename.
Bionic is the real name.

Side note:

I don't think that this should be in the rumored devices forum, as the Bionic is very real. Can an admin move this to the Bionic forums?

Sorry about that - I haven't spent much time navigating the forums. The Bionic forum would be more suitable.

Bionic was a phone mentioned at CES 2011. That phone is pretty much gone. They took the other rumored phone (Targa) and used some designs from both and decided to release a NEW phone with the end name of Bionic.

So, we've been waiting since CES 2011 (Jan ?), and the name is still a mystery ? With this much anticipation, anything short of perfection will be a major disappointment ! Is it really tied to the release of Apple's I5 ??;)

The name has never been a mystery. The official name of the Bionic has always been the Bionic. Etna was the codename of the device shown at CES. That device was scrapped. Targa is the codename of the "new" Bionic that is going to release shortly.

The iPhone 5/4S targets a different market entirely. That phone will be far smaller and won't have LTE.
