DROID DNA 2.xx Moonshine s-off / RevOne S-off RELEASED

I can't make a recovery without being rooted, though. My bootloader says I am s-OFF and unlocked...
But root checker says I am unrooted, and I'm unable to use Rom manager or superuser because both say I am not rooted...

Have you tried fastboot flashing a recovery image?

Change the name of the file to recovery.img and place it in your adb folder then..

adb reboot bootloader
Fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot reboot

Then try rebooting into recovery and flashing a su.zip or rooted Rom.

You'll want to navigate to where the .tar file was downloaded and extract it to wherever you like. Everything you need should be in the extracted folder and that's the directory you want to be in.

After I extracted it this morning I tried running a command from that window and I got no open in terminal when I tried to right click..I have to be doing something wrong..ill let u know later when I get home how it goes...

I've run Linux for years, currently running Linux Mint at home. Moonshine was an absolute breeze to install! Just installed ViperDNA and enjoying finally being rooted on this phone!

Shout out to jgraves12 for helping me. Got unlocked, s-off, created a back up without rooting, and am now running a sense five Rom. It is AWESOME. Thanks again.

Sorry I didn't see this earlier. I had the exact same problem because the instructions I saw said to type /home/downloads or something like that and I got no directory. It needs to be (at least mine was) /home/ubuntu/downloads, something like that. I know that ubuntu was one of the locations. After I did that it worked!

Another satisfied customer! :)

I used a CentOS 6.4 x386 LiveCD and it worked great (I'm just preferential to CentOS, I'm sure Ubuntu works perfectly). In a nutshell, it's no different:
  1. Insert the CD your burned with the Linux LiveCD iso and boot your PC.
  2. Launch whatever browser is installed (typ. firefox). Navigate to moonshine.io.
  3. Review the instructions (again), go to the d/l page and download the DNA package.
  4. Open a terminal window (in CentOS this is under Applications -> System Tools -> Terminal).
  5. cd Downloads
  6. tar -zxvf ./moonshine*.tgz
  7. sudo ./distiller
  8. Wait 5-10min until it finishes!
Happy to answer any questions on getting it installed with CentOS. One of the most simple/straightforward root methods I've ever tried!

Moonshine also installs the superuser.apk during the process. If you want root/superuser in the stock ROM, just locate SuperSU in the app drawer and look at the settings to enable it. I verified this to be working by re-downloading my TiBackup Pro (which needs root/su), and it found the necessary permissions and is running happily.

This might be because you were running a live CD. I'm running Ubuntu 13 and it's still the normal file system of /home/Downloads

Edit: auto correct :(

I'm having a hard time understanding what exactly I need to enter in step 6. In the instructions it says to enter _<device>_<version>.tgz after moonshine. I don't know what that means.

It means you should use the filename that you downloaded. (There are different files on that webpage for the different phone-types/devices. You only download the one for the DNA in this case. They are each named according to the device and version of their release of the software. The instructions are general.)

My warranty replacement just came in. Running Ubuntu 13.04 64 bit with 32 bit libraries installed. My first attempt resulted in an error upon the second boot that said: "WTF: What are you doing?" and then quit. I did nothing :p

Hilarious. Trying again haha.
