Here's something that makes sense: from another forum
OK this maybe more bad news for some of us, or all of us.
*
I called last night to check the status of my phone, I ordered it on 6/5 in the store with an ETA of TODAY (6/25).* I got a really nice lady (Jasmine) out of the California call center that helped me.* We kinda joked about the demand on the phone, and the delays, but she had a great sense of humor and went as far as finding my order on "the list".* What she was seeing was that all 6/4 and 6/5 orders were suppose to ship on 6/25 (so much for the phone being here today).* She did go on to say they had gotten a message from FedEx stating that orders were being delayed potentially up to 5 days.*
*
At this point I asked her "Why is FedEx telling you this?"* I think she was not suppose to be saying FedEx had told sent out the communication.** She really did not have a answer for me at first, so I followed up with "Does FedEx do your fulfillment?" She stated "Yes".
*
So what does that tell me/us.* Most larger companies that do a lot of shipments (HP, DELL, AT&T, APPLE, VERIZON and so on) has hired UPS or FedEx to manage their inventory.* This means Verizon does not need to manage a warehouse of inventory, FedEx does.* FedEx can house multiple customer product at one location and ship it for them on when needed.* I know this because I use to work for one of the companies I mentioned and was involved with setting up the management of this process.* Usually they have 1 may hub and then several smaller hubs that can have product shipped to in the event they run low.**
*
Back to my conversation with Jasmine, I asked her next "Was FedEx impacted by the iPhone?", she did not know.* So I could be that now FedEx is trying fulfill demand on the iPhone and the Incredible, they probably thought that the Incredible demand was going to be long gone before the iPhone hit.** So this would explain the 5 day delay, that some hubs are not able to process the iPhone and Incredible high demand. Also with the holiday weekend next week, they may have a reduced staff being people are taking days off for the holiday.*

Now Jasmine did say that FedEx sends them data at the end of the day with the tracking numbers, and then it is suppose to go into the system and e-mail us.* She did say that it was about a day behind processing the emails.* Hence why when we call that they can see the tracking number in some cases and yet we have not gotten the email.* She stated there is a possibility that 6/4 and 6/5 orders may go out today.* She did offer to check my order for me on Monday when she gets in and text me an update, which I thought was really great, not the answer I wanted but keeps be from having to call on Monday to see where the phone is.

Sorry for the long write up, but I thought I would share my findings.
