Droid MAXX: Quality of music over Bluetooth is poor...

Re: Quality of music over Bluetooth is poor...

True, but in my case I went as far as possible. Motorola wouldn't take blame and Verizon couldn't help. I spoke with corporate relations and supervisors and nothing could be done after a month. At some point you can only pursue so much. Sure I could have kept getting replacements but after 4 phones due to signal drop issues I felt I was fighting a battle that couldn't be won.

I can totally understand that. When nothing else works, I probably would have done the same thing. and hey, if your Note 3 is working, I'd say you at least won in the end. I'll just keep living with the little nagging issues and wait till the next amazing shows up

I won if you consider spending $800 or so a victory. I had to pay retail so I could retain unlimited data. However, with that said, the fact that I'm no longer experiencing issues is worth it. :)

Best of luck. If you need any help just send me a PM.

Yeah. Kinda wrecked my plan paying only $540 for this one. If I really do take this back and get my money back, I'll have to eat a $200-300 increase to a new phone... Makes me even more willing to deal with it.

Re: Quality of music over Bluetooth is poor...

To get back on subject, Kitkat seemed to fix my poor sound quality issue on bluetooth in my car. Sounds much cleaner and no static anymore. So finally they got that right!

Glad to hear! :)

Anyone else get Kitkat and have a similar experience?

Holy thread resurrection, Batman!

Indeed, my upgrade to Android 4.4 from yesterday has fixed my bluetooth. I have listened to music via bluetooth connection in my car and mini Jambox. Been listening to several genres, different volumes, different equalizer settings... Music sounds clear now. Bout friggin time!

That's ironic!

Since upgrading to 4.4 I get nothing but crackling and break-up with my previously perfect BT headphones.

Strange.

I am unpairing all BT devices and repairing only the ones I routinely use to try to fix it.

Let us know if it solves the issue. Its so frustrating when an update fixes what's broken for one group but then breaks it for those it worked well for. :(

So, a little troubleshooting provides finer grain detail of the problem, for me, but no solution.

I use Jaybird BlueBud X wireless headphones with my Maxx. They worked perfectly under all circumstances pre-KitKat. They work perfectly (static free) under KitKat as long as no other BT device is actively pinging the phone.

So, for me, the problem, severe random crackling/static, arises when my FitBit syncs with the phone (background sync a bad idea anyways, since it kills the FB's battery, despite claims that the Maxx is now compatible), and also when my BT Heart Rate Monitor is connected to the phone. Interestingly, my CobraTag does not cause static.

Both of devices worked perfectly well concurrently connected with the Maxx before KitKat, so something with the new KK drivers must be the issue.

Sadly, the gym is where I mostly use my headsets, and obviously where I use the Heart Rate monitor, so very disappointing that the most frequent use of my headphones now will be in circumstances where the Maxx's broken BT is most likely to rear it's ugly head.

I'm not sure which of the three devices, besides the FitBit One, are BT 4.0, maybe it's that LE stuff that's now broken.

By the way, the crackling seems to maybe be the headphones disconnecting and reconnecting very quickly. I say this because Pocket Casts often pauses playback after a crackle, just the way it would if I turned off the headset during playback.

I noticed the other day that I was hearing some static - it was only intermittent. I never had static over BT on JB. I noticed the static happened when I was just far enough away from my router that I was probably cycling WiFi connectivity while I was shoveling snow.

The other possibility is that I wear a Pebble watch, so perhaps it's another BT device that is creating some interference.

I've also had some static on the car's audio over BT when driving in and out of my driveway (WiFi?), but I was also wearing the Pebble. Lastly, I've also noticed either static or audio stuttering when I receive active notifications (usually it happens once, when the first notification comes in - you can see the phone's display flash as it is happening.)

I'm going out a bit later to test all of these out. I'll drive first as I did the other day, then see what happens (after a stop) when I disconnect the Pebble, then see if disabling active notifications makes any difference.

Re: Quality of music over Bluetooth is poor...

Disconnecting the Pebble definitely helped with one thing (the phone kept a solid audio connection; when I was connected it would just stop playing audio randomly). But the static when I left home and returned - presumably when WiFi connectivity was changing - still remains. None of these things happened under JB.

Correction to my original observations.

Those who follow the Trusted Devices thread may recall that I've complained the CobraTag now randomly disconnects under KitKat, where it had never been a problem before.

I had several random disconnects last night of the CobraTag while listening to an audiobook over my BT headset last night and noticed that just before each disconnect alarm of the CobraTag that there was a burst of static/crackling on the audio.

There's definitely something wrong with the BT radio drivers now, that wasn't there for me with JB. What a shame, the phone was 99% perfect under JB, Google Wallet being the only missing thing I cared about. I would gladly give up Google Wallet again for prior BT behavior.

To be honest there was always something wrong. I experienced Bluetooth crackling prior to the update but I wouldn't know if it was solved as I dumped the phone.

Dodge Dart 2013, Rae 200 Uconnect radio has poor audio quality over bluetooth. Oem radio on Toyota Corolla 2014 sounds great as CD quality. I think is the way it how it communicates over bluetooth.
Another thing I noticed, those who knows about custom Rom, when I had my Galaxy S2 using MIUI Rom the quality on my Dart sounded like CD quality, changed back to stock Rom and had the low quality audio again. Somehow it has to be with the ROM. I am using a Galaxy Note 3 and I have the same issue as Galaxy S2. If there was a way that I could just fix a file on my phone to make it sound as a CD quality that would be awesome.
Anyone who got this fixed even on a custom Rom on Galaxy note 3 4g?

I just finally started using my Droid Maxx with bluetooth to listen to google play in the car and noticed it's also scratchy to. I thought
at first it was just the song but then noticed it was any song that I turned up loud. It was very annoying. So I tried the Aux cable and that
sounded fine...It's too bad to because I didn't even realize I could listen to music via bluetooth and would be much better not having a cable.
Oh well.

Re: Quality of music over Bluetooth is poor...

Wow, old thread. I'm no longer having this problem, by the way. Though I've also stopped using a Pebble, I do now run with a garmin watch that is bt connected to the phone. No static for me, with either the bt earbuds or in my bt car audio.

Disconnecting the Pebble definitely helped with one thing (the phone kept a solid audio connection; when I was connected it would just stop playing audio randomly). But the static when I left home and returned - presumably when WiFi connectivity was changing - still remains. None of these things happened under JB.
