DROID Shadow pre-release thread

Well if you are prone to dropping your phone often, an expensive large-screened smartphone may not be for you. Just because the Droid or Moto Shadow is mostly made of metal compared to the Incredible, doesn't mean it's less prone to the screen shattering on impact from a fall.

Anecdote: My mom slightly tripped while holding her iphone 3g and it kind of slipped out of her hand and went sailing through the air (she was standing in the middle of the kitchen with marble floor) the iPhone dropped onto its screen at an angle such as that the screen hit the ground flat and luckily NOT A SCRATCH on the phone/screen. She was very lucky, I would have in that instant bet $1000 anyone that the screen would have been destroyed. Good thing I didn't.

I'm usually pretty quick about it.. Usually able to kick my foot out so the phone hit's my foot before the ground.. Funny that I suck at hacky sack but I can cushion my phone before it hits the ground. lol

Exclusive: More Droid Xtreme Shots Released | Droid Life: A Motorola Droid Blog

Curious what is on each side of the earpiece? Probably light sensor and LED?

What's on the lower back? Looks like a second mic and a weird circle?

Man I'm torn I want to ditch my Storm and get a Droid phone but I drop my phone every once in awhile so the Incredible scares me from what I've seen it does not stand up to a drop.. (And no I don't want to get a case, cases add bulk and I don't want a bulky phone) Now the Moto Droid2 is tempting I'll have to see what it looks like when it is finally released and the specs are set in stone..

You won't be sorry switching from your Storm. I wasn't when I switched to the Droid. Moto makes higher quality phones than HTC imho. I know people who have repeatedly dropped their Droids, and except for some scuffs and dents, they are all fine. No broken glass like the Incredible. Moto uses Gorilla Glass, which is extremely durable and shatter resistant. I carry mine without a case or a screen protector and it looks just fine. I am looking forward to the Xtreme. I don't use the keyboard for anything except some rooting operations and I want the bigger screen. The only thing I may wait for is someone to root it.

Does the Xtreme reportedly have a slide out keyboard or is the keyboard virtual?

^^ i feel the same way love metal housing feels durable.

I found the Metal Housing has its trade offs. I don't mind a bit more weight for durability. But strange thing on my Droid Incredible. Because it is so light, but stiff, with its vzw stretch on case it just doesn't seem to hit the ground so hard, bounces better. I know it seems strange but when I dropped my BB Storm, I could just hear the thing crash even w/ the same type of case. DI is quite quiet on strike.

So is a front facing camera the hardware change that was supposed to delay this phone don't much care about a 2.0ghz processor or nvidia gpu just want something I can video chat on. And not run Android 1.6

Adding a front-facing camera would be a major change, so I doubt it.

The dilemma is do i get this or wait for the dual core processor with front facing camera? Decisions Decisions

i will wait no reason to jump the gun for this which seems to be an upgrade but not as big as the droidpro would be. so i will hold off. plus that will put me closer to my one year upgrade point which will be nice

I am so upset this thing will have Motoblur. I mean, really??? Just give us vanilla Android 2.2. I was 100% set on this device but now I don't know.

it has a version of blur that you or i haven't seen so sit back and wait for it to be previewed or released. then make a decision on ninja blur

Yeah, this so called "Ninjablur" is not sounding so great. If it was, we would be hearing about it. Instead, someone with the phone was quoted saying, "Ninja Blur is Blur running without the user knowing. For those who don't like Blur." Engadget goes on to say, "Translation: it's an Android skin that does very little but make aesthetic differentiators and probably slows down the processing speed a bit." And they're right. Give me stock Android 2.2 and I'll be happy.

Well to I haven't used blur on 2.1 + neither has engadget. Plus this doesn't look like any blur that I've seen even the video they had on blur2 didn't look like this.
