DROID TURBO 2 vs. Moto X Pure Edition

Re: Turbo 2 or Moto X Pure or G4

I went ahead and ordered a Pure, but the jury is still out. I want to see how it feels in hand and check out the LCD screen. I could possibly return it in favor of the Turbo 2 if the trade in promotion is still going on in a week or two.

Re: Turbo 2 or Moto X Pure or G4

One advantage, if you're doing 0% interest device payment plan, you'll have a 12 or a 18 month commitment for the Pure vs. 24 months with Verizon for the Turbo 2.

However, I think you can use moto credit if you order direct from them (which you may if you aren't taking advantage of Verizon's trade in promotion.)

Turbo 2 or Moto X Pure or G4

Based on samples I've seen, I'd say that point is debatable.

Dxomark rates the 6p as highly as the turbo 2 and I haven't read anybody who says the turbo was as good as the turbo 2.

In fact, I don't think I've seen a review of the nexuses that say the camera is an issue. Most reviews of the turbo pointed out its poor low light performance and shutter lag in low light and action shots.

But, you know, whatever you like. Was just throwing the nexus phones out there as an option...

I agree. The 6P in particular appears to have a really nice camera and certainly better than that of the original Turbo.

Let's us know what you think! For me money isn't an option since I'll be getting 300 for being a new customer I just wanna know if the cons of the Droid turbo: bloat ware, late updates is going to be a deal breaker for me

I'll probably check the phone out in person at a Verizon store soon. But, I don't know if I'll be able to justify the huge price difference, even if I did decide that I preferred the Turbo. I would have to sell the MXPE outright since it's way past the return period, etc... Just a big hassle.

Sorry, I thought you were referring to the Turbo 2, not the 1st one. My thoughts were the 2 and the 6p were both pretty similar in results and both a noticeable upgrade over the original Turbo camera.

The bloatware is a nuisance, but if you don't mind taking the time to delete and disable what you don't like, it shouldn't be any real issue for you...unless whatever storage capacity you buy is barely enough for you and the disabled stuff pushes you over the edge.

Re: Turbo 2 or Moto X Pure or G4

My opinion for the Marshmallow update is that the Turbo 2 will be a month or two behind the Pure, mostly due to carrier protocols. They are very similar devices. The shatterproof display and different battery do not affect the firmware, it's pretty much just a slightly different processor and screen (though driving the same resolution?)

Marshmallow upgrades will hopefully be less of a. Issue than Lollipop. The Lollipop update suffered from the 5.0 bugs. And there was talk of processor/lollipop compatibility issues for the Turbo and 2014 Moto X. Whether true or not, I thought I had read there were issues with Verizon's advance calling thwarting the upgrade as well.

Re: Turbo 2 or Moto X Pure or G4

The bloatware is in ROM, so you can't really delete it, but if you remove the updates before you disable it, it won't take up any RAM, either.

According to reviewers, a few of the added games could be deleted.

I believe you mean storage, which is not RAM. The originals will remain in storage, but you're right that at least the app upgrades will not also take up extra space. (App upgrades of system apps cannot overwrite the original app, so they're essentially duplicated, unlike third party apps.)

Re: Turbo 2 or Moto X Pure or G4

I'm leaning towards the G4. Its already getting Marshmellow overseas, and USA upcoming. Camera looks really good, plus with OIS. Battery is quiet large as well.

All Bloatware that are non VZ can be deleted. The rest can only be disabled. I did this for my wife's Turbo 1 and it runs like a dream!

Wow, lots of replies! I guess I should also clarify, I have had my Turbo for only 7 months, purchased off craigslist. My only real complaint is the camera. As an amateur photographer, it's just nice to have manual controls. I would potentially consider the Nexus 6P.

Re: Turbo 2 or Moto X Pure or G4

I've had the G4 since launch. I also had the Turbo prior to the G4 and really liked the battery life but not the camera. I recently used the Moto X Pure for a couple of weeks but wanted to wait for the Turbo 2 to launch so I returned the Pure within the 2 week time so I could give this a whirl. I have to say I like the Moto interface better than the LG side.

While I really like the Pure and without most of the Verizon stuff (things like voice mail had to be added and I had an issue doing that but it was finally resolved), I am drawn with the battery life. I also like the fact it has a shatterproof screen so maybe this is one I can use without glass and a case. I'm just torn between the 32gb and 64gb. I'm leaning to the 32gb as I never keep a device very long and doubt I'd do a refresh. But then I think I could do the 64gb and do a refresh prior to re-selling.

Decisions, decisions.

I'm not sure the 6P could get you through a complete day without charging. Plus it's a bigger device. No wireless charging, IIRC.

Once you've had a monster battery, like in the T1, there's no going back.

You can get an aftermarket camera for the T1 that will give you some manual control. I liked Camera FV-5 when I used it for a while.

Turbo 2 battery: 3760
Nexus 6P battery: 3450

I can't believe that there are many situations where the Turbo 2 will get through a day when the 6P will not.

More importantly, both have slightly different versions of rapid charging, so you can get hours of battery life in a matter of minutes of charge when the battery is low. (Something like 7 hours more battery in 10 minutes of charging.)

But, yeah, you're right about wireless charging, and it's a quarter inch longer than the Turbo 2, and heavier, though they're the same width, and the Nexus is 2 mm thinner (that's about 20% thinner). It will definitely get Android updates faster.

I think both are great, and about the same price if you get the trade in credit on the Turbo 2. If not, the Turbo 2 is pretty expensive.
