Droid X discharges faster than it charges while using Navigation n the car dock.

I think the car dock was badly designed. I was trying to get my phone to charge while in the dock today. Even with out any apps running I couldn't get the phone to charge while in the dock. I tried both the version car chager and the ac adapter for the usb cored. Neither one would work, but both would work fine if I plugged them straight into the phone. After playing around with it for a little bit I noticed that phone wouldn't seat all the into the dock when it was in the case(verizon case holster). I took it out of case and then the phone would seat enough, so that it would charge with either charger. I even tried modifying the dock like others have suggested on here, but I can't get it to seat well enough to charge in the dock while in a case, but it works fine out of the case.

I don't think the dock was badly designed, just not designed to accommodate a case. I wouldn't mind having one that is designed for a case, but this one wasn't.

I wouldn't say it was badly designed because it doesn't work with some Verizon case on the phone. It wasn't designed to do that at all.

Stay away from USB car chargers. The phone will see the charger as a USB host and will only draw 500mAh. Instead get yourself a regular car charger like this one. It's rated at 1,000mAh, which is more than enough to feed your power hungry GPS and charge the battery at the same time.
Just how does the phone see it as a "USB Host"? the reason i ask, is i wired up solar panels that are putting out just over 5 V and 700mA and when i plug in, the phone pulls the voltage down to 4.2V (trying to pull more than the 700mA).

do they do something with the data pair to make the phone see it as a USB HOST?
