Droid X pre-order from Best Buy

Hey guys, newbie here. I still own the Verizon 9630, but hoping to get the Droid X. Ok, called BB today and they said that they do NOT do "Early Upgrades", so, off to Verizon I go. My annual upgrade date is July 5th, just not sure if I'll even qualify, and if so, how much will I pay.

Well fro other posts I've read, Verizon recently changed their NE2 policy sometime late last year (not sure of the active date). I believe the highest "credit" you can receive for your NE2 is only like $50-70. Contracts made BEFORE the date that the policy was changed are still given the $100 credit.

I'm going to search for the dates and info on this and edit my post later on.

Mine NE2 is also July 5th and since the phone is going to be released on the 15th they told me that I DO get the NE2 discount. We'll see what happens when I go in on the 15th to pick it up.

No, my NE2 isnt really until July 5th, 2011.

I'm talking about my annual upgrade date and pricing.

Not even an annual? I heard I could, was just be a little more money.

The annual upgrade, yeah (according to VZW's site) you should be able to do that if you've completed one year of your 2-year contract. So I'm guessing you'd just get the phone for the $199 price (after MIR) and you'd have to extend your current contract another 2 years and your NE2 date would also reset.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

From VZW's site:

"What do I have to do to get a new phone with Annual Upgrade?
You must be registered for My Verizon, be on a calling plan of $49.99 or higher and have completed at least 1 year of a 2-year contract and agree to renew for an additional 2 years in order to get a new phone at a promotional price. It’s as easy as that.

Is this replacing New Every Two?
No, Verizon Wireless is providing an additional program to upgrade your phone. By taking advantage of the Annual Upgrade, however, your New Every Two calendar will restart."

Any hard facts about the battery and memory card? Never heard this
Me too. I'm #1 on our local list. Can't wait.

One point I'm still not clear on, however, is how they handle the optional upgrades; 32gb microsd for $99, and the 2000 (or thereabouts) mAh battery that are supposed to be available at launch. I want both, and I assume that the 32gb microsd upgrade includes them taking back the 16gb preinstalled one. BB didn't seem to know how that is going to work.

Phil mentioned the $99 32gb memory available at launch in the first segment of this week's podcast. In the morning, I'll have to check the source of the large battery, also reported available at launch. I know there was no price mentioned.

I went to my local BB right after reading this story. They said I was able to pre-order it out-of-contract, which is what I'm planning on doing, and the price was $599 but they weren't sure since they had just started pre-selling it. I was the second pre-order so far.

Question though: My plan isn't up till next July, so in 2011, which is why I have to buy it out of contract. I won't be hit with an ETF for buying it out of contract then switching my number to it, will I? This was my original plan until my dumb friend started saying that it won't work and I'd be hit with an ETF. Can someone please shed light on this for me?

So since they said I'd be able to get one out of contract, I can be safe from the ETF?

32gb card and 2000 mah battery answer from my local corporate store:

"You are basically just buying extra accessories. You get to keep the sd card and battery that ships with the phone to use as extras."

True? Who the hell knows, but it sounds reasonable.

I dug out my source on the larger battery. It was from the live Motorola Event blog from Phil Nickinson, at 1:30 PM: "1930mAh battery pack will be available later with only 1mm of thickness added."

The newly distributed launch package shows an Extended Battery &
Cover – 1840 mAh, available Post Launch in August, and no price shown, is probably the same item.

I also went back and listened again to the podcast to check my reference to the $99 32gb microsd memory. Phil mentioned it about 22 minutes into the podcast. To be precise, he did say that he believed he had seen it in the Accessory Documentation, or perhaps somewhere else that day, and he did say "don't hold me to it". Hopefully, he will have a chance to check his source, and clarify for us, or it will come out from another source.

The launch package does show a 32gb card, with no pricing. I hope $99 is the deal, as I haven't found any near that price so far. I did note that they show a picture of a class 2 memory, but if that is adequate to the task, and it doesn't degrade performance in the DX, why pay more for unused capability?

Getting back to Best Buy. If the battery isn't available until August, it won't matter whether I get the DX through them or Verizon. If the 32gb microsd memory is available at Verizon at launch, it raises the question of whether Verizon will offer the alleged $99 price contingent on purchase directly from them, only with the purchase of the DX, or if Best Buy will match that price.

Did they acknowledge that those items are actually on their accessory lists, or do you think they were just making a generic comment?

Yeah ive got a DINC at the moment but im jumping ship for the X..

I have a question for anyone who might have done something similar..

I have until the 15th to return my DINC. Should I be able to preorder at best buy and drop the $50 deposit before returning my incredible? Or will they check my upgrade status before letting me preorder?

Does anyone know if Best Buy's Mobile department honors Verizon Discounts that jobs and educations offer?

Can you purchase the phone at best buy for retail? I purchased my Dinc from Verizon and went through Hell with them for it. Such a mess of customer service. They seemed clueless. I should have returned my inc within the 30 timeline but oh well. I'm getting a brand spanking new one sent to me in early July so ill sell it on eBay or Craigslist for the retail price so ill get some cash to put it towards the X. THIS is the device I've been waiting for. Looks nice and looks like performs extremely well.

By the way, are the OMAP processors better or faster then the processors in the inc? I hear the OMAPs are more efficient then the processor in the Droid and Inc.

Just pre ordered mine from BB about 2 hours ago. I was the first one, imagine that! Hope they don't misplace my order form. They made me get that lame 50 buck gift card, oh well if it gets me my new phone. I asked when they might be getting them in and one of the guys said July 13th. Does this sound right? Didn't sound right to me but lets cross our fingers that he knows what he's talking about.

When I pre-ordered mine they said it'd be fine. But who the hell knows with all the information floating around. I'd say go in and ask. There were two working the phone section when I went in and one one helping one lady while the other was helping me. All of a sudden all four of us, plus my friend were discussing ETF's for buying it at retail and stuff like that. The way that whole conversation went pointed to me being able to.

Plus, I specifically asked and they said it wouldn't be a problem but I couldn't get it for the $199. :p Damn! lol They just didn't have a final price yet, but both told me probably $599.

The ETF won't apply to you because you are not terminating your contract, simply changing the phone, you'll change the esn registered with your number and activate the phone and thats it. I've gone through probably 5+ (different model) phones in the past 9 months, no issues.

The ETF only applies when you cancel your line.
