Droid X update this morning to 4.5.605.en.us

I'm glad I googled this update before I considered installing it.

Since most people seem to be having issues, or at least temporarily lose their root and access to wifi tethering, all just to get some lame fixes for the stock keyboard, I'll pass on this and all future "updates".

Btw, I disabled the nagging install prompt by using "Root App Remover" to delete the "updater" system app.

So, is there any way to reverse the update once it has been installed? I have never had issues with my keyboard. Now I have issues with everything. I hate this new update.

They do stay installed. They just take 3 times longer to open or function.

That appears to be the case for a small minority who are running non-standard ROM and other mods. If someone has to ask if they need to reinstall apps after an update, it's safe to assume they are either "stock" or "stock and rooted" - like me and many others.

I've not had any issues post update and re-rooting. My DX is running great, and my new gorilla gadgets battery is actually making it through a heavy day with no need to pop it on the charger, and leaving now I can leave WIFI and Bluetooth on, and forget about power management issues.

So....the update is a non-issue for most, but of course YMMV, as we see from the above post were some real issues were seen.

Ok sorry I should have made it more specific before sorry to ask again. But if I have android 2.2.1 and update to android 2.3.3 or 2.3.4 will my apps still be there or do I have to reinstall them? Thanks for responding back.

Update as you please. You will not need to reinstall anything.

The only time you would need to reinstall you apps would be if you erased them, or reset your phone to factory fresh.

If you are running a stock OS, or stock/rooted you should have no issues with the updates.

Thanks just want to make sure before I do.

I gave in and installed the update on my rooted stock GB. 602 and the update went fine and I am still rooted and dare I say my phone fells snappier? I have my SD card backed up just in case I get that issue.

The only problem I am having with this update is that now everything is a baby blue color and I don't know how to change it! I like the new interface and how things look EXCEPT for the baby blue color! Anyone know how to change this WITHOUT rooting?

I have never rooted my Droid X and am not interested in doing so. I have no problems with my SD card. Everything is running smoothly (where right before the update it was extremely sloooowww) and everything is working.

Could you please post some screenshots of the new baby blue? I'm running miui rom.

Ok so bare with me. Im arooting newb.

1: i have a DX that i had SBF'd back to froyo from gingerbread in order to root it via Z4 root.

2: i just got this 4.5.605 updatetoday which put me back on Gingerbread and cancelled out my root :unamused:

3: I tried the one click root and when it goes to reboot, it puts my DX in bootloader mode then ends up saying on the computer screen that the server is not running...

4: i need my root back! what is a better option, if there is one???

Please help the newb!
Thanks guys..

Will .605 kill teather? That is why I hesitate. Besides really setting up the apps Widgets is a pain.

The droidmodderx site has a rooted .605 file to download but I don't want to loose wifi teather

I'm by no means a rooting expert but also recently took the .605 update & rooted it using the one click method just a few days ago.

I actually had no issues what-so-ever by following the directions exactly as given, but I did come from a fresh install (meaning I did a factory reset right after updating to .605). I know it probably isn't something you want to do since you will have to reinstall/setup all of your apps again, but if getting root back is that important, you may want to try it before doing the one-click root again.

My guess is that some of your system settings that were retained while going from .340 to .605 are preventing the one-click root from working & wiping all settings by reseting the phone will allow it to work. (This is of course assuming that you did follow the directions exactly, have the right drivers, & unzipped the download file.)

I think the general consensus is that Verizon did put something in the .602 & .605 versions of Gingerbread (I'm not sure about the earlier leaks) to track/block unauthorized tethering. I don't think getting the rooted .605 file from droidmodderx will change that since it is likely just a pre-rooted version of the .605 OTA with no other changes.

FWIW, a developer did find the lines of code in the OTA's & package up a .zip file that can be flashed on the .602 & .605 updates that patches that code to disable the block. I found the files & instructions here: WugPacked GB Tether Patch [All-In-One Zips]
I haven't tested it out since I flashed it because I am currently using my Droid Incredible as my daily driver, but no one has been saying it doesn't work in any other threads that I have read about it.

There is also a link to a YouTube video in this thread: http://forums.androidcentral.com/mo...-wireless-tether-app-stock-605-gb-rooted.html that shows the process being done if you need a visual aid, unfortunately, I am unable to link directly to it currently because I am at work & YouTube is blocked by our firewall.

Good luck

I am on .602 and using the WigPack wifi tether. I have the .605 file but didn't know if the WugPack tether would work with it.
