Droid X update this morning to 4.5.605.en.us

I doubt that is due to the update, but that is something I worry about with important videos. I upload all videos like that to my channel on youtube. You can mark them private and its like picasa for your videos.

My update appears to have gone through smoothly, but now I have four icons across the bottom of my screen that I can't seem to get rid of (phone book, dialer, text messaging, and apps). Previously there were a series of dots down there that you could use as shortcuts to jump across the several home screens. I can't seem to get rid of these icons now (holding and dragging to trash can does not work). Does anyone know how to get rid of these? They clutter up the screen and additionally I miss the functionality of being able to skip across home screens for faster navigation.

Thanks

Those icons are there to stay. Its just part of the new blur. You can change what those icons are by dragging a new app into its place (except the app drawer icon).

Some launcher replacement Apps such as adw will allow you to change the number of icons you have on the bottom of the screen.

Same question. Anybody know how to delete the update and prevent further updates?

These are the steps I came up with my the seat of my pants. Will see how it works until somebody with more knowledge can advise me better.

1. I found the two update files under /cache, used Root Explorer to delete them.

2. Found an update service running so killed that as well didn't catch the name of the service I stopped, but I think it started with update or something like that.

3. Renamed /system/app/upgrader.apk to upgrader.bak using root explorer.

Will see how this works out. So far so good.

Does anyone think these updates are getting worse?
-I'm getting an SD card issue with Evernote thinking it's a new SD card every time I restart.
-Also, the phone takes longer and longer to reboot after every update.
-Am getting more hiccups than I used to. Phone seems to freeze a lot.

I'm rooted and hope that that's not effecting it and don't really feel like another reset.

I received the update but haven't installed. Is there anyway to get the pop up trying to get me to install to go away?

I did what the above post said. I used root explorer to delete the updates. I didn't delete the update file or rename it though.

I updated my phone two days ago and now it seems that the battery is just crap. I have had my phone unplugged in idle for just under 2 hours and it's down to 70% already.

My phone isn't rooted and I'm not really interested in doing that. Just curious if anyone else is having battery issues with this new update and if there's a quick fix for it.

Thanks!

You said you tried the same thing but did it work for you? Did your phone go back to the way it was before? I can't tell you how much this new update has messed up my phone.

By the way, my phone is not "rooted" either, I don't know what that is. I just want my old phone back. The oh so helpfull guy at the Verizon store told me it can't be changed and there is nothing I can do about it.

Last I checked, I paid for this phone making it my property, not Verizons to hack as they see fit. Please help. Thank you.

this is all AFAIK....

if your phone already updated, then this won't do anything for you. research how to roll back to Froyo, or what is termed loading a different sbf to your phone. my droid X updated to Gingerbread originally over a month ago, and I did a factory reset to return it to 2.2.340, or Froyo (GB slowed my phone down A LOT - and I lost my free tether). This was actually not that painful, it took me a couple of hours to reload my apps (SD card was fine, untouched).

I just rooted my phone (fancy way to say gave myself top level access) - another easy process. There is a video tutorial on here. Just be careful what you change once you have root access.

I deleted the auto-downloaded files that were trying to update me to Gingerbread, so we'll see if that does it. I was _unable_ to delete the updater in /system/apps/... said it was a read only file... :-\

also - verizon has license to do whatever updates they want, when you buy the phone, you grant that permission... kind of like Windows can auto update (unless you act to stop it :))

woke this morning to a notification to upgrade again... so spent time and figured out how to change the updater file name. Same process referenced here: http://forums.androidcentral.com/motorola-droid-x/122008-how-avoid-605-update.html

we'll see if this works now...

Just updated. For 2 days I didn't update because the message looked like spam or a virus. I then thought that if I hit the button I would get a secondary message giving more details... nope ! Goes right in and starts the update process. Although the new version is not too different... its enough to make me not like it. Wish I could go back but I guess that's out of the question. Oh well... guess I have to make the best of it until I get more used to it.

hello my phone updated to 4.5.605mb810.verizon.en.us a few days ago and now my bluetooth headset no longer works right it connects but cant hear anyone and they cant hear me but i do hear when the call ends thru the headset

I simply froze the upgrader.apk with TIBU. Another benefit of root.

Did this work? I have changed the name of upgrader.apk, deleted the downloaded files (several times) and it still somehow re-downloads the files and prompts me to upgrade....

I do not want to...
