DXOMark rates HTC M9 Camera only one point above M8's

The real question here is who is DXOMark and why should I care what they have to say more than anything else for public consumption? I have never even heard of these guys and I doubt if you asked 100 on the street that 1 would know or 1 would base what phone they get on their review of it. I googled how many articles on the internet about the S6 finishing first on this list and I found one mainstream one, Android Authority. Then I google the M9 finishing 22nd and there are pages of links. These phones were available the same day. I am the first to be critical of this camera but this is simply piling on at this point from the tech community. I still have an iPhone 4S kicking around my house. To say that it's camera is better than the M9 and be taken seriously is a joke. End of rant.

I'm assuming the iPhone 4s score is the one given to it when it was new maybe? I don't think I've heard of them either.

DXO is a legitimate source of camera lens and camera quality measurement. They've been doing this for some time now.

I included a quote of their conclusion because it's telling. What did they say? Good autofocus, very good detail and pleasing color accuracy. So in daylight conditions (when I take the vast bulk of my photos), this camera should be fine. And that's been my experience. Coworkers who've seen my photos express surprise that the camera is so poorly reviewed.

On the other hand, the HTC M9 camera did come in last on Android Authority's "blind" test. I pointed out issues where the photographer's bias affected the results. At any rate, I accept camera auto just about as much as I'd let skynet control our nukes.

The question is did the 4S get a 70 when it came out, doubt it, or is this an adjusted 2015 score. Given that, I have no idea how they came up with these relative scores. Will they adjust the M9 score when 1.4 comes out? Because it strikes 2 negatives of that list. Like I said, this camera has some issues. Many of which can be resolved through software. Others which are just inherent flaws. But overall, this camera isn't nearly as bad as the tech press is making it out to be.

Now that I think about it, my earlier post thinking maybe the 70 score was the original 4s score can't be right. When the device was released it was considered one of the best cameras in a smartphone.
