I haven't checked to see if this question has come up but what would happen if someone opened a new account with the edge program did the $0 down then the following day paid the early termination fee ? are you legally required to pay a specific portion of the phone off before termination? or does the line get disconnected and you still do payments separately on just the phone?

I don't think there is a early termination fee. You have to pay the price of the phone off, that is taking the place of the etf.

Just about the same thing this way, purchase phone at $650, that has to be paid off if you terminate the line. Contract way, buy note 3 for $300, ETF is $350, total is $650. The edge will probably cost you more to terminate early.

I have a question, can you do the edge on one line and transfer the phone to another line?

There is no service contract with edge, just a phone payment contract. If you wish to terminate "early" you must pay the entire value of the phone at the time of canceling.

I was told by numerous Verizon reps (so take this for what it's worth) that the phone cannot be transferred without violating the edge program contract therefore requiring you to pay for the rest of the phone

You can transfer the phone to another line as long as the line that you are doing Edge on is active. The Edge payment plan will remain on the like that was originally Edged up on. That is how it was explained to me. Now by active this could me and pre-existing line that was upgrade eligible, not sure about on brand new lines of service if this works.
