No problem... It should all work fine if your going the update.zip route... Just take your time and follow the steps... I've done it quite a few times to my old Epic and aided many in doing it to their phones...

Those instructions were pulled directly from our official Eclair to Froyo EB13 update thread back awhile ago...

Kind of an aside to the main thread, but related since it's connected to my earlier problem. Now I'm having issues with the SD card. I've got everything copied to my computer, but formatting and copying back aren't going so well. This card gave me the same problems when I first got it, too, so I'm trying to remember how I worked around it. It's a 32GB class 10 card. Windows format with the quick option fails; it says it can't complete the format or something. The SDFormatter tool looked like it worked, but I couldn't copy from my computer (64-bit Windows 7) to it; it gives some long error number when I try and nothing copies. I think formatting it in Android had problems last time, so I haven't done that yet. I'm currently in the middle of a Windows format without the quick option, and hoping that's the trick to get it working on both my computer and my phone. Has anyone else here had similar problems, and if so, do you remember how to fix them? Thanks in advance.

If I remember correctly the device can't format 32 gig cards....

Yeah, I think I read that when web searching. I also read that it was supposed to be fixed, but didn't really see details on how or when. Formatting from the computer may be the better, if not only, option. Should a plain Windows format without the quick option work? I used the default settings of FAT32 file system and 32 kilobyte allocation unit size -- are those OK? Thanks.

Really not sure on that friend... I haven't had to format mine ever when I was rockin the Epic... I was able to just use the "scan for errors/quick fix" when I had problems with my sdcard, using Windows Vista and Win 7.

Just did the manual update and it worked fine. This thing is running way faster than before!

OK, thanks, Paul627g. I did get it to work last time, so eventually I should get it to work again. How do you do the "scan for errors/quick fix" you mentioned? It may be worth knowing in case I need it at some point, too. Thanks.

Edit: Would you believe the adapter was the problem? Using the SD-sized adapter that came with the card, my computer had issues with the micro SD card. When I used another SD-sized adapter I have, from previous purchases, it worked fine. The quick format worked, I copied one folder over as a test, and it worked. I'll have to copy over everything else now, and hopefully that'll do it.

Almost sounds like your rooted if you got the custom kernel on your device... Do you have an app in your list called SuperUser ? If so your rooted and probably have CWM installed.

If so then head right over to this thread....

*sigh* Had to factory reset and wipe the phone clean. :( I kept having problems with the 32 GB card, so I put the original 16 GB card in instead to see if it was just the card. The phone did the same thing as before, where it would seem to work OK for a bit, then reset itself. I figured there wasn't any other way around it except to wipe the device. I'll have to work my way back to restoring everything I had before. Thanks for the help.

Sorry to hear... Well we did give it our best efforts.

Yes, and I do appreciate it. I might take this as an opportunity to clean up a little bit, and not install apps and games I almost never use. That should free up some space, and maybe make things run a bit faster, so it won't be all bad. Thanks again for your help.

I keep failing to make this update happen on my Epic

I dont consider myself a noob since I have done rooting and flashing for quite some time now. I was on EH17 and attempted to go back to EC05. Bricked my phone in the process, but was eventually able to get back to EC05

I downloaded the link and renamed it to "update" since it is already a zip file no need to add the extra zip portion. Moved it to the directory of my phone went into recovery mode and tried to update using the zip and kept getting the same error. The status 7 error

Now I have cleared cache and did the data factory reset. Downloaded the zip file multiple times, and even downloaded directly on my epic to avoid the possible "cable transfer error." I am completely out of ideas. if anyone has any ideas. Please tell me.

I can certainly wait for the OTA, but I would like to know other ways to do it instead of waiting for the OTA especially for future purposes.

since you're comfortable with flashing...;)

flash this in CWM

or...

simply Odin this

then flash this in CWM

Speaking of, is there a way to check your modem firmware? I watched the update and it said it was updating my modem firmware, though I haven't had a chance to check to see if it's better or not.

It should be on the latest, EI22 modem then. Baseband version tells the modem. See the screen shot in the OP.
