now no download mode.

I was just able to get into clockwordmod. I chose reboot, and same warning picture. Now made it back to clockworkmod again. Should I pull my SD card and chose to wipe data/factory reset, and then recover with my Titanium backup?

I'm sorry I've hijacked this thread!

I had a similar issue to Garindan -- and I did have to wipe data/factory reset via CWM -- and then Odin worked to put EC05 back on the device. Your mileage may vary -- but it did finally work for me.

I just did wipe data/factory reset to complete, chose to reboot, and am back to that warning picture again.

Yay. I rebooted my computer as suggested. now back in download mode, and my phone is now detected in Odin. Odin did it's thing, I got "PASS!" and my phone just booted up with ECO5. :D

I think the computer reboot was key.

Thank you so much, Paul, and Jude for your reassurance.

I think so.. Many people don't realize how fussy Odin really is and since it works with your computer and the drivers installed once something "fails" the first time around it usually is best to reboot the computer to give everything a fresh start before attempting again...

Glad it worked out.. Now you should be on your way to updating to official GB !

Anytime I can help -- I spent plenty of time being nervous at that warning photo thinking "bricked phone...bricked phone" so I know how you felt. As always, Paul's advice was sound and reassuring -- and most importantly, worked! :D

When things like that go wrong, anyone's help and advice is always reassuring even if it works or not. Just knowing your not in it alone helps :)

True -- but it is always an added bonus when it works too. Which your advice has, at least over my time in these forums.

I could use some help/advice. I just did the manual installation of the EI22 Gingerbread update on my Epic, and it seemed to be OK at first. However, the phone now appears to be rebooting itself at some point, often during the second media scan. Before that happens though, I can generally interact with the device as I usually would, so I'm not sure if this is considered a boot loop. I thought a boot loop meant you were stuck rebooting continuously, without making it to the regular home screen or anything. I know the factory wipe is supposed to solve the boot loop, but I would rather not do that if I don't have to. Can anyone suggest another possible solution I could try instead? Thanks in advance.

I noticed that the camera settings now has the GPS tag setting. 2nd page under the wrench settings.
I noticed that as I scroll side to side on the home screen, it will keep travelling from screen 7 back to 1 without having to reverse directions.
Any other items found?

1. You could do the factory wipe/reset...

2. If you have a sdcard reader/adapter for your computer you can copy your sdcard contents to your computer and then format the sdcard then replace the contents back onto the sdcard as they were. Pop it back in the device and reboot and see it if helps...

I say #2 because you claim its happening during a media scan which is normally accessing your sdcard. Could have a sdcard with a few errors or corrupted..

Thanks, I'll try reformatting the SD card. I'm not sure if all of my reboots are happening during the second media scan, but I know that at least some of them were, because I was watching the progress bar in the notification window when it reboot. The card is pretty new, so I wouldn't expect something to be wrong with it, but I'll give it a try. If it works, it's better than wiping the device clean. If that doesn't work, I guess I'll have to wipe it. I've wiped the phone clean before, and it's not terrible, but putting all my apps back takes hours, so it's a pain I'd like to avoid if possible. Thanks. I'll try to let you know what happens.

Grab something like AppBrain ... Google it.. That will make restoring your apps in the future on stock a bit easier... Plus you can go into your account via the web...

android.market.com

Then click and reinstall/download your stuff to your device much quicker than navigating slowly via device...

As far as the sdcard... That can be easily corrupted just by accidentally yanking the cord when your hooked up via USB/mass storage without properly ejecting the device..

Thanks, I do already use AppBrain. It definitely helps, but it still takes a long time to install everything (I have a lot of apps).

Edit: Since copying the SD card to my computer was taking a while, I decided to boot the phone without the card. So far, it seems fine. I haven't seen it reboot, and it's probably been 2-3 hours now. So I guess there's something about my card it didn't like. I'll work on that. Hopefully I can get it back to normal without having to wipe the phone. Thanks for the tips.

This might be wishful thinking, but could Gingerbread make it easier to get Kies Air on the Epic, like what's on the Epic Touch? :)

I've got Kies air. It came bundled in with SFR 1.2 or one of their previous builds. Pretty damn neat, but I admit I don't use it really.

The power, camera, volume button isnt the reset button anymore... did it change or is it just my phone ?
Do you think they added a screenshot button?

could someone help me with this. I just got my epic with stock eclair and am wanting to update it to the newly released 2.3.5. I had it unlocked and activated with boost mobile. My ? is do I need to update it to froyo first to be able to do this? Also will it at all interfere with my service with boost or wipe it clean> I am new to all of this and need a lil assistance. Thanks so much!

Soft reset or Vol Up+Camera+Power was removed/disabled in GB... Froyo goodness, can't remember if it was on Eclair..

I wouldn't think your device being activated on Boost will have much to do with anything.

Hang tight and I will hook you up with directions..

Here you go... This will have to be done in some steps...

1. Take your pick below from the two options to update from Eclair to Froyo EB13 ( I recommend just doing the update.zip)

2. Once that is completed and you boot into Froyo EB13 you should receive the OTA update within oh 10-15 minutes or less to update to Froyo EC05 (short download/quick update). Go right ahead and do the OTA

3. If for some reason after a period of time goes by you don't receive the OTA for Froyo EC05, PM me and I will post the instructions to manually update.

4. Once you have sucessfully updated to Froyo EC05 then you can follow the instructions in the OP of this thread to complete your update to official Gingerbread EI22.

Manual "update.zip" method: (This will NOT ERASE your data)

Download Link : update.zip

This is done via stock recovery. Further explanation below.

- You need to be on stock Eclair 2.1 (DI18)
- Download the update.zip file
- Place it on your root directory of your sdcard
- Boot into stock recovery mode (press and hold volume down+camera+power for a few seconds)
- Select "apply sdcard:update.zip" (You navigate by using volume up/down & select by hitting home key)
- Sit back and wait for the update to finish and your phone will reboot into EB13 Froyo!

Windows Download/Installer Utility Version: (Complete wipe of phone)

Download Link : Windows Installer version of Froyo EB13

The Windows Download Version will install using your computer with a provided installer. Just download the file and "run" the file. It will place a icon on your desktop called "SWUpgrade for SPH-D700". Click on the SWUpgrade for SPH-D700 and follow the steps and you will have Froyo EB13 when its completed. I recommend a fully charged battery to be safe before attempting.
Problems, questions... PM me or ask here... Your choice...

Good Luck.

Paul.
