2 questions for those that have updated:
1. is the kb screen rotation fixed?
2. are the bluetooth reconnect/sound volume issues fixed?

those are my only complaints with my phone.

Odin'ed back to EC05 from CM7 after repeated issues with getting Odin to take, used the recovery mode Paul suggested, and it let me wipe data and Odin worked after that. EC05 just came up, and prompted for OTA GB. Will let you guys know what I see.

wheni went to move it i didn't see a root directory , so i created one, i move it there and wheni went to install i.got error :

" E: failed to open/sdcard/update.zip (no such file or directory) E: signature verification failed. installation aborted "

Has anyone done the gingerbread update.zip method on a stock epic without having to reset/wipe their phone yet? I would try this if I knew some people have had success with it. I will wait and chance the ota if everyone it's having to reset after the update. Also, has there been any issues reported so far with this gingerbread update?
so

I'd like to know this too.

In fact, I'd like to know if wiping the phone is necessary with this method. Surprised it hasn't been addressed. Will the method descibed in this thread necessarily wipe your data, or just if you're unlucky and run into problems?

Without even trying I know I'm a member of the latter group. I'm always a member of the latter group when it comes to udpates and such.

Just did the update. Swype is updated (no popup) I like it.

My keyboard rotates the screen quickly but never had the issue before.

Also don't use the bluetooth....

Followed the update zip method no issues at all. Booted right up on the first time. So far it's good.

Did the update.zip and it worked great. No I didn't have to wipe any of my programs or data.

did you download it from the phone? if so did u open file before you turn phone off and restart it with volume and camera button? and did you have.a root directory and did you move it there? sorry for so many questions

@Mac-arthur1..

Move the file from your download folder to the main directory that the DOWNLOAD folder is located it....

That is your root directory....

Edit one way to tell if your in your root directory is look for a folder called DCIM (which is all you pictures from your camera)...

Thank Paul!

My phone is updating now! Yay!!........ DONE and with NO ISSUES what so ever!!!

I downloaded it to phone, renamed it to update.zip, moved it from the download folder to the root of my sd card. Turned off the phone. Volume down, camera and power button held them until the phone started. No reason to try and open the file.

Keith, you know what you did is against the grain right? LOL... Supposed to wait for the OTA..

Well I'm glad you took the chance and walked on the wild side for a few minutes and all has turned out good for you...

Enjoy GB man!

odd issue, i think i might know what the problem is but i want to make sure, i'm stock and rooted, i copied the update.zip to the SD root and booted (it goes to clockworkmod recovery) no matter what option i select with the home keyi just get a black screen with the capacitive buttons and the LED lit when i press the home key or the back key it comes back to the CWM menu, i try pulling the battery to reboot but it goes back to CWM, any ideas?

FYI. I am on a complete stock EPIC 4G. I received the OTA Update this morning around 1000am EST. It only took 3 minutes and the phone was back to normal. The SD card media scan took about 8-10 minutes, which is longer than normal. Other than that, it was a very smooth update.

Lots of fixes were in here and so far I am VERY happy with the update. Many of the problems I had are now gone, however it will take some time to see if other issues are gone as well.

Fingers crossed. If it stays well, then I might actually stick with Samsung/Sprint in the future.

That was really just too easy to pass up. The reason I waited for the ota on froyo were all the issues everyone was having.

Perhaps I will update my daughters phone when I get home. So far I see very little difference between froyo and gingerbread. Of course I use launcher pro so I may not see it.

It may flash for you in CWM, I've heard of some doing so...

You need to make your selections in CWM by using the Camera button. The HOME key is for those not rooted with stock recovery.

I know you will loose root if it does work and you will have to re root the device. Instructions can be found here..
