ill post it up if the problem continues also the sms bug is still there at least for me. i just sent a text to my friend askin him if he had gotten the OTA update and he said no. i made fun of him and called him a but the text went to my gf luckily it was a text i had sent to my friend and not to some chick. any of you experiencing that sms bug.

Go right ahead and post it up in the thread I started Jose... Get the word out.

Stock Epic 4G. Everything worked as advertised using the download and install instructions on page 1. Thanks!

Finally worked for me. I had to rename the file to "update", NOT "update.zip" before the installation would go through.

Seems snappier so far.

Anyone who's rooted got a screenshot of the About Phone screen showing the important goodies.. I would appreciate it for the OP of this thread.... Credit applied of course:)

PM me the goodness :p

I just downloaded the update.zip file to my SD card and updated.

Wow!

I was ready to throw my Epic down my concrete driveway... UNTIL TODAY!

Everything is faster! Phone boots in ten seconds. Touchwiz is more fluid. Even Swype and texting is much faster. This phone rocks again.

Under Froyo, I had to constantly reset my phone (complete wipe) every few months just to keep things zippy but Gingerbread is blazing fast. Can't wait to put it through its paces during the next few days.

I never had GPS problems, but it would often take 20 second to get a lock.

Now, with Gingerbread, GPS locks in about three seconds.

Great update... so far.

I'm thinking about doing the manual update, since I'll most likely be at the end of the update cycle if I wait for the OTA update. In reading through the forum posts as well as the comments left in the article at main AC page, I've seen that some people are not getting the manual update to work. It seems that some of it is the filename, so I'll be sure to check the file extension when I download the file.

I've already had to do a factory reset once because my phone would not connect to the computer. I'd like to not have to do another factory reset because the manual update doesn't work out. What are the chances of there being a problem?

50/50

Its happened to people getting the OTA update and doing the manual method where they get the boot looping at the Samsung screen and need to do a factory reset/wipe and reboot.

Just a bug in the update, doesn't seem to be any trend... Just random.

Question:

I'm running Froyo EC05 and I had done the one click root awhile back. Haven't installed any custom ROM's or anything.

Can I use the manual method to update or will that fail because I'm rooted?

If your still rooted and don't mind continuing to be rooted then you can use the following thread.
[Pre-rooted][Deodexed]EI22 CWM Flashable

Or do as instructed in the OP of this thread and Odin back to stock Froyo EC05.

The update starts and makes it about halfway through when I get this.

-- Install from sdcard...
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Installing update package...
Installing update...
assert failed: file_getprop("/system/build.prop", "ro.build.fingerprint") == "sprint/SPH-D700/SPH-D700/SPH-D700:2.2.1/FROYO/ECO5:user/release-keys" || file_getprop("/system/build.prop", "ro.build.fingerprint") == "sprint/SPH-D700/SPH-D700:2.3.5/GINGERBREAD/EI22:user/release-keys"
E:Error in /sdcard/update.zip
(Status 7)
Installation aborted.

Any ideas?

I should mention I've already attempted battery pull and wipe/reset to no avail.

Any more information please?

What was your status before updating? Froyo EC05, rooted ? Gingerbread leak/rooted?

Also I notice you have SGSII listed as your device.... You wouldn't be attempting this on the SGSII would you?

Hello everyone,

I just did the manual update and I'm stuck in the boot loop. From the Galaxy S screen to the Sprint and back. This isn't good. I didn't back up my contacts either, so doing a factory reset really is not something I want to do..

Is there anything I can try? I really cannot afford to loose hundreds of important contact information.

I was not rooted before, I was on a Froyo EC05

Yes, I tried pulling out the battery.

From what I have read this is the only solution... Your contacts SHOULD be good as long as your device was always setup to sync your contacts/phone/calendar/gmail to your Gmail account... In that event your stuff will be restore after the factory reset and you log back in on your device.

FYI, this is not just isolated to the manual method.. It has happened to those receiving the OTA, so don't beat your self up for jumping the gun.. Its random and hasn't happened to everyone...

Thanks. Just to clarify, I always save my contacts to "PHONE". Will they still be saved/come back after I restore?

I had my Epic synced with my gmail, and it always downloaded my emails.

No my main line is an SGII which is currently running GB 2.3.4, the phone I'm attempting this on is the original Epic 4G.

Before attempting this update I was showing Firmware verion 2.2.1 Build number Froyo.DK28.

I have been using Juice Defender for just over a week, and it has done a good job of extending the battery life between charges. Is there any reason NOT to continue using it, now that the phone's been updated to GB?

Juicedefender on stock froyo really extended my battery life...but not when rooted and ROMed.

So far GB battery has been good...using my epic with autobrightness, wifi ad pandora now. Dropped about 4% in 35 min ding this.

Granted, since this is NOT my primary phone, the radio is not enaled -- this would draw extra battery.

I say try GB for a couple of days without JuiceD and then enable it...find out for yourself!

Update went smoothly via downloaded update file. Liking the improvements that were made. My favorite feature is actually a fairly small update. On the manage apps section, when you go to the sd card option it shows which apps can be and which apps are installed on the sd card.
