How do you sync your contacts to your Gmail account? I've been saving most of my contacts to the phone.

Have you tried the export/import option from your Contacts? You can export your contacts to SD card, then import them back but as Google contacts.

Directions in the OP worked for me except - as noted a few posts ago - for not stating that you need to "apply update.zip". Otherwise, perfect instructions and my Epic updated flawlessly. :-)

Now, moving on to rooting & beyond!

Thanks again Paul627g!

I amended my instructions in the OP to "apply update.zip" so there is no further confusion.

Thanks.

My epic I running 2.3.4 and when I try to do the manual update to 2.3.5 I get an error???? Any help plz!!!
You must be on Froyo EC05 for this to work... Your running 2.3.4 which is Gingerbread leak.

Go to OP in this thread for instructions on how to Odin back to EC05.

i downloaded this, changed it to update.zip.. rebooted phone while holdin down and camera..and im at the Clockwork Mod Recovery 2.5.1 screen (green text) and no matter what i choose, it goes to a black screen and when i press the Home button again the same screen reappears.

is this the Clockwork loop and how do i get out of this? I thought this was goin to be easy. :-\

Must be on STOCK NOT ROOTED....

You have old CWM 2.5.1 installed which is rooted. You will have to Odin to stock EC05 Froyo.. See OP in this thread for instructions...

If anyone has trouble, one thing to check is that when you transfer the file, make sure Windows is set to show file extensions.

I renamed my zip to update.zip; but due to Windows being set to not show the file extension, I had renamed it to update.zip.zip and it was failing.

does anyone know how to reboot phone via buttons in GB? 3-button trick doesn't work and hasn't since EG22 or any GB for that matter.

@Paul

Thanks so much for all the time and effort you put into helping. I'm having issues with Odin so I think I'm going to stick with DK28 for now, or at least until my brain is somewhat rested and ready to try again. :)

Odin can be very picky..

Try different cables/ports...

Try doing all of it without your battery in your device.. (Yes this works as long as your connected via cable...)

I think it was removed in GB.. The soft reset your speaking of..

Volume Up+Camera+Power

@all...

I'm gonna put the laptop down for a while... I've been supporting this since about 7 am this morning when all the fun started...

Read the thread, search, and re read the OP in this thread for help, tips and you should be fine...

Best of luck and enjoy your official Gingerbread everyone. I wish I still had my Epic 4g to check it out, but then again I do have my wife's Epic to go flash! LOL...

Paul.

He put the laptop down for 45 minutes after staying with this thread through 17 pages, 14 hours and lots of questions from users. Can you say Hero?:cool:

Right.. so nada? holding PWR doesn't even yield a reboot option. So power off and power on is the best way. Interesting.

Yep it seems on stock all you got is power up the device and power down.. No more soft reset...

Yes ..... I did the same thing in Win7. 2 hrs worth of odin and CWM changes I finally figured out that it was a simple file misnaming problem.

Another thing... On my phone, the only way to Odin is to remove the battery and sd card. I don't know why, but i figured this out when i was a nube and banging my head on my desk for what seemed like hours.

So if any body is having problems with Odin, 1)a Good USB cable of which i have 6 or 7 because I've accumulatede them thinking that was my problem, 2) remove the battery and sd card... which for me is a must. Those 2 things will save you lots of trouble and hours of frustration with odin. When odin connects properly it's the simplest thing in the world to use.
